Pre-op Jitters

Hi I am new to this site. I am scheduled for a TAH on 12/1/04. I am now two weeks pre-op. I realized today that I am really getting nervous. I am not one to cope well with the "unknown", so a co-worker told me about this site and I decided to give it a shot.

When I started talking with this co-worker, she remembered that I had my son by c-section and stated she also had two prior c-sections and that the recovery was not at all what she thought it was going to be (horrible at first). I told her that my MD said that the recovery is much different from a c-section and to hear her tell it, yes it is way different--ergo-my accelerating anxiety!!!!

Now I am wondering if I can handle everything pre and postop. I am nervous about my 5 y/o that needs to go to school everyday, the housework that nobody does except for me, the laundry that nobody does but me, etc. etc. etc.

Maybe someone can give me hints on how to organize my household and everyday life before I leave it all in the "capable hands" of my hubby.

PLEASE HELP
THANKS

Pre-op Jitters

Hi
A couple of weeks can feel like an eternity when waiting for surgery but keeping busy helps and I found I had alot of nervous energy to burn. Maybe spend some time cooking extra meals to freeze , give the house a spring clean ( you probably won't be up to h/work for a while ) remember the h/work will be always there waiting it does pay to give yourself the chance to heal right . You didn't say if your DH is taking any time off work so maybe make arrangements with other mums to pick up and drop off your child at school as most people don't get cleared for driving for about 2 weeks ( mine was 4 weeks) you could do your grocery shopping online so maybe look into that , it will also give you something to do post op. I was lucky to have 3 helpers around the house so I would supervise the laundry ( didn't want all my whites pink )If your DH understands that you can't do things for a while he will probably be more than happy to help out , I know my DH doesn't usually do much around the house but knowing that it was important for a good recovery to rest he wouldn't let me do a thing he really was the housework police
Best wishes, the time will come soon enough
