low blood pressure? concerned my hysterectomy will be canceled?

I have low blood pressure sometimes and it causes chest pain and goes away if I drink water. I need to drink more. I see my doctor for my pre op tomorrow and going to let him know. I'm worried he will cancel my surgery?

I also suffer low blood pressure. It can make me light headed at times. Drinking plenty of water helps. They will monitor your blood pressure during surgery and give you meds to keep it up should it drop too low. This is something that should absolutely be discussed with your surgeon.

I will definitely let him know. But I can still have surgery right?

It probably depends on how low your BP actually drops. Some people do have a lower BP all the time, and that's their normal. Your Dr will check it for you, but lower blood pressure isn't an automatic cancel. Best wishes all can go as planned.

Be triple-sure you talk it over with the anesthesiologist too...and everyone else in the room.

Definitely check with everyone, but if it goes away when you drink water, I imagine that they will give you a fluid IV during surgery and that should keep you nice and hydrated and might prevent your blood pressure form dropping too much. Good luck!

My blood pressure is always low. The only trouble I had was covincing my nurse the next day I wasn't going to faint when I got out of bed with 84/46 blood pressure. Ummm if thay was the case I'd be getting dizzy and fainting every day!

Drinking lots of water is a good idea and get your cortisol/acth and vitamin D levels checked to rule out Adrenal insufficiency and Cushings. Good luck.
