Upcoming hysterectomy 2/13: Being home alone to recover (with children) - how to prepare?
Hi everyone, I have friends and very few family members that can help me during my recovery. Has anyone had to recover alone? And if so, what are your suggestions? The recovery part is more scary for me than the actual surgery. Can anyone relate to what I'm going through. Any suggestions or advice is welcome. Oh and I mention I'm a single Mom as well.

Re: Being home alone to recover.
Hi ayceron72 to HysterSisters!
I am so glad you found this site.
Recovery alone is doable, with planning. Think meals prepared ahead of time, frozen meals, easy breakfasts/lunches, paper plates and plastic ware, etc. Depending on the age of your children, you may need help with them. Keep in mind that you will have lifting restrictions: 10 lbs for 6 weeks and 20 lbs for 8 weeks is common. A gallon of milk weighs 8.5 lbs. You will also have driving restrictions, perhaps 2 to 3 weeks.

Can anyone look in on you? Maybe a neighbor, family or friend? Also be prepared for much to be undone - like house cleaning. So your house will get very messy, but so who cares. Healing is much more important.
Just know that you are not alone in this. We will be by your side throughout this process.

Re: Being home alone to recover.
How old is your child? You might be able to get some help there, if only just for fetching things so you don't have to do as much around the house. I have a 10 year old and a 6 year old and they are both old enough that I've told them all about what my recovery will be like, and the kind of help I'll expect from them around the house.
If your little one is younger, you may have to think about what kind of childcare help you'll need, in addition to help with meals etc.
