little nervous: supracervical hysterectomy and still have periods?

I have read that after having a partial supracervical hysterectomy that you can still have periods so now im a little nervous about having it done. Please reassure me that is not true!

Re: little nervous

You could. It depends what your surgeon did. Mine cauterized a lot in my cervix to prevent this!

Re: little nervous

I have read that women who keep the cervix can have mini periods. I would call and ask to speak to the doctor.

I elected to have mine taken out due to the risk if mini periods and the fact I probably have adeno. I want no risks of this stuff staying inside me.

It is possible to still have mini periods if you keep your cervix. The doctors will cauterize the tissue, but that does not always work.

Here is an article on the subject:
Mini Periods after Hysterectomy

Please speak to your doctor about your concerns.

Re: little nervous: supracervical hysterectomy and still have periods?

hi, I had to keep my cervix due to it being to adhered to other organs. over 7 weeks now and no sign of mini period as yet. it is only a small percentage of women who get them, and from what I have read it is usually light spotting.
there are doctors who believe keeping the cervix helps anchor the pelvic muscles to prevent prolapse.
reading all the stories about vaginal cuff problems, makes me kind of glad I don't have to deal with that. Focus on the positives, and make the right choice for you. I think both options have their pros and cons.
