Advise on how to get my husband to understand

Hi froglove,

The doctor I chose to do my surgery suggested at least a laparoscopy to look for endometriosis, or any other cause of my pain. I preferred just one surgery, so we agreed on a laparoscopy, possible removal of endometriosis if found, possible removal of one ovary (not both) if necessary, and possible LSH to remove Essure coils. I gave him a lot of liberty to make decisions based on what he found during surgery.

My doctor found no endometriosis. There was a peritubal cyst he removed on my left side, and some adhesions that he removed on my right ovary as long as he was there, but he didn't feel they were contributing to my pain. So he made the decision to do the LSH. I didn't find out for sure until it was all over and I was waking up in recovery.

That was almost 5 months ago now. Some of my pain has been resolved. I still have some that we haven't pinpointed a cause for. (I've had other things like complications from a prior hernia and repair. I did have a "new" pain that started after I had the Essure and an endometrial ablation done July 2007, so the doctors weren't sure if it was related to either of those procedures, or just a coincidence.) I am definitely no worse off than before. I'm glad I had the laparoscopy to rule out things like endometriosis. And I don't regret at all having had the LSH to get the Essure coils out.

And BTW, I don't mind all of the questions. That's what wer're here for is to support each other. I know I felt very alone when dealing with the Essure removal...not a lot of knowledge or experience out there. Best of luck to you.

Anita,

Thank you so much for your support! It is great knowing that there are other women who have had the Essure done and had them taken out.

I am/was hoping that they could do the Laparoscopy and if they didnt find anything then do the Hysterectomy on the same day. I hope! But it is a military doctor doing this so who knows.

I will find out more on Tuesday.

,

I'm sorry your DH doesn't understand.

My DH and I are Mil-to-Mil dual Active duty.

My DH had seen me bounce back from a deliveries, tubal (Essure) and eye surgery and was expecting more of the same. We've been together for ten years but due to deployments apart almost 4 years cumulatively. He was scheduled to go 2 hours away for a DEMO course during my first week and wasn't agreeable to flying in a friend to care for me that week. I shot him the link to MisterHysterSisters. He scowled when he opened it but apologized after reading the articles. He took a week off and now my mom is here to help with our DD's and DS.
I hope your DH comes around and but you might talk with some of your other friends or family just in case. Also look into the spouse support system. They have been my greatest advocates especially when the CO's wife gets a whiff of what her husband's command leadership is acting like.

Look up the rules for your <> location even though I'm <> I was still able to get a second opinion at no co-pay cost if I had wanted it. Instead I opted to be completely <>out to a Uro-Gyn Specialist.

BTW My coils had built up substantial scar tissue in the tubes. Fortunately no ruptures!

yeah I am NOT happy with the Essure at all. Never recommending them to anyone.

Also waiting on <> for my approval. My on base OB said there is a chance of them not covering it. But I do not see why they would deny it. Its not like im doing it for fun LOL.

Thanks for sharing your info with me!!

Froglove,

How did your pre-op go? How is your DH handling things has it gotten better?

Sorry Crossfire

awww thanks for asking about me! Pre-op went great. He got to ask his questions and got answers he was satisfied with.

They are going to go in with the laprascope and look first and IF there is another blatantly obvious reason to my pelvic pain then she will stop and go talk to my dh and he will make the ultimate decision. Which I can deal with because there is nothing else causing my problem.

I got my list of to do stuff before my surgery and all the prepping stuff.

If all goes well then she will be taking my uterus and most of my tubes. She did not say anything about taking my ovaries. I totally forgot to ask her about that. I will have to call her Monday and ask that.

But yes to answer your questions, the appt went well and dh understands better.
