dVH/RALH: Same Day Surgery

I'm going to the castle tomorrow at 9AM for an 11AM surgery time. I was told that baring any complications, I will be allowed to go home tomorrow afternoon. Maybe I'm old fashioned, but that seems awful quick to me. Am I unusual in this thinking?

Not to me. I told the doctor that I wasn't comfortable with that and he let me stay the night. I did need the morphine that night, so I was glad.

My surgery was at 730 on Monday, November 5. I was discharged around 230 on Tuesday. They did not take my catheter out until almost 6 am on Tuesday. That being said, I have seen a number of ladies on here who went home the same day and were fine. My surgery was done at a hospital that was 2.5 hours from my home so I am really glad I wasn't sent home the same evening. Good luck on your surgery!

I'm only 10 minutes from the hospital so maybe that's why. Thanks for the responses!

I traveled 3 hrs from home for my surgery. After arriving I found out I would of been dismissed the same day if Ihad not lived so far away. I definitley would of been up to it though. I felt great after my DaVinci....and never experienced any pain.

Thanks everyone! The support here has been phenomenal! Leaving for the castle in half an hour. My nerves have calmed somewhat but now I'm experiencing a crying jag! Just get me to the other side safe and sound.

I think it all depends on you... i was set on staying the night for various health reasons... if it wasn't for my lack of being able to urinate for a few hours I probably would have been discharged at 12 noon vs. 5 pm (same day). I have not needed rx pain killers other than i took one that first night to sleep.. and didn't sleep... but i was home 9-10 hours from check in to my own house! I'm totally shocked actually..... it is better than I expected...
