Pre op scheduled for 12/9 and surgery on 12/10, I have questions on what to expect.

Hello all!

I am new here and would like to know what to expect with my upcoming surgery and all. I am 37 and was diagnosed with Uterine Fibroids. I am scheduled for a complete hysterectomy on 12/10. According to the doctor he is going to do the laparoscopic with the vaginal procedure. I am not sure if I am saying that correctly - lol!

I have no idea what to expect. My pre-op is on 12/9, but what questions do I need to ask? Any other suggestions on what to expect?

Wondering why for fibroids they are taking your ovaries?

Is this pre-op with the doctor or the hospital? I had one with each.

The pre-op will cover any blood work or other test that need done (should of actually been done a week or longer before). You need to know sooner than the day before any medications, supplements, vitamins, etc. to stop taking - most are a week or longer before surgery.

They should tell no food or drink after midnight, about any bowel prep IF your doctor requires it - many do not; what to expect when you arrive; after surgery what will happen. If this is with the doctor this is a good time to ask about limitations after surgery.

The fibroids have began to cause pain and a lot of discomfort. He also thinks I may have endometriosis.

The pre-op is with both on same day. The nurse has already told me what meds not to take but that about it other than no driving for two weeks and no lifting etc.
