bookah212- thanks for the link and the email. So you're having nachos and your band plays for beer. Sounds like a great combination to me!

jujubear-the only time I've had silver nitrate was to stop a nosebleed from smoke inhalation during a fire. It didn't sting, it hurt like ****! (Fire :burning: What were you thinking?!)

Princess48-sorry to hear that you have regressed a little. Hope you feel better soon.

hundjm- I work with mostly guys. They think the ladies milk everything. I defy them to go through something similar to this! If they get a cold they think they are dying and spend most of their time in the break room. My dh has been so supportive! I think it's because he works at a pharmacy with a bunch of ladies. He's also naturally compassionate.

Img420- I'm so glad your migraine is going away. I've never had them, but my father used to and my MIL still does. They always seem so sick when they have them.

bagpus45- sounds like hot flushes and night sweats to me. I get the same thing and do the same thing except I have a little personal fan I turn on. I'm trying black cohosh to see if it helps. If not then I'll get in touch with doc.

singingmad- I repeat, Vicks on the back of the tongue?!
Yuuuuuuuuck!

FF1962- I love the Mall of America/MN and usually make the pilgrimage once a year. First we go skiing around Grand Marais (sp?) then down to the mall. I really, really love the aquarium in the basement.

Flatfroggie- Congratulations on passing the 6 week exam! Now, that mine is over and I've been released it hurts today! I'm blaming it on the rain.

Happy Now- We would never move without you! I like this idea of exercise without effort. (But not in that part of the body.) Where can I sign up?

'Bama- 2x I have completely lost my voice for 3 months at a time. Since I was in sales at that time and talked on the phone constantly, it was quite frustrating. I would have to take a very deep breath to utter a sound and was exhausted by the end of the day. My family was quite happy, especially the kids. Docs finally figured out that the GERD was so bad it had burned my vocal cords. Now, the little purple pill and no further problems.

PLWC1- I can't believe you mowed. Hope you're feeling better today.

Pocono, Guinea, daisydimple, & rn55- good afternoon!

Someone had asked about given names; mine is Shannon Elaine, aka: babs and sammy. There are a few others I've been called that I shan't repeat!

babs

Absolutely it counts! even humming counts in my book!

My brother lives ummmm..... I think he's near Ann Arbor. They just bought the house about two months ago and are in the midst of renovations. He actually composes, plays sax, english horn, oboe, and bass guitar so he'd probably find a band fun! Is Ann Arbor near you? I'm hoping to get out there to visit some time towards the end of the year. Unless I find a new job and can have more vacation days... then we might head out during the summer.

Jane! I love that piece, Panus Angelicus. Weddings are fun to sing at. I got married last August but didn't sing at my own wedding.. well, actually I did because it was my BIL's birthday so my quartet and I sang a rousing rendition of Happy Birthday to YOU! It was a surprise to him that anyone even THOUGHT of his birthday. LOL

I think saying you are "back to normal" isn't the same as saying you're as "good as new". Back to normal at the six week check usually means you're cleared to go back and start your regular activity, but think about it. The muscles that you are using have been out of practice for a month and a half!!!! They start to atrophy or other muscles have been filling in for them... everything has to be given a chance to get itself back in shape! I'm feeling much better than I did during week one, but not at all in shape to go golfing, kayaking, dancing, standing up for 3 and 4 hours at a time, driving for 2 hours or more. My muscles are just not there yet and they won't be there til I rebuild my strength. And when you DO try to do everything that you used to, since some muscles tire out quicker, other muscles try to compensate.. and then you get aches and pains in places you never even knew you had! At least that's my explanation. Calling the doc is always a good thing, but realize that you've been taking it easy for a while now... your body has to have a chance to get back on its feet.

I like to think i have a great voice, but i soooooo do not. not even in the shower. Doesnt stop me, though! I literally make my husband cringe- and my daughter actually told me to stop singing once- and she was barely 2 at the time!! We(the kids and I) have our own little happy hour each day where I put on music and we sing and dance. Even with the music turned way up- i STILL stink! My little brother can sing- he's a musician and in a band. he's also a DJ, not the kind that plays music at bars or on the radio, he is a DJ that spins his own music and makes mixes of other peoples music. He's on the southeastern Us leg of his current tour now, heading to Europe next week. In his genre of music (drum & bass) he's very accomplished!! I'm so proud of him!! Needless to say- he took all my musical genes. My whole family- artists and musicians. I can't draw a stick figure or carry a tune... go figure
bookah~ thanks for the link, I appreciate it! Looking forward to this thread!!!

Yes, vicks on the back of the tongue. Its nasty but brings the voice back if say you're in the middle of a show and suddenly the leading lady goes silent. After all, people paid for those tickets and they're not going to be happy having the music whispered through to the finale.

Babs I'm glad you made it over!

Singingmad - I'm on the West side of the state, he is closer to Detroit. Ann Arbor is where U of M is I'm a state fan myself but won't hold it against him. It's a cute little college town.

My dh composes, play classical guitar, piano, and electric guitar. I grew up in a musical house. My mom and dad were in a band until they divorced when I was 8. I think they destroyed my low end hearing by having band practice with me in my walker as a baby. My mom played the piano and synthesizer/keyboards by ear and my dad sings commercial jingles. My mom passed in 2001 but we try to keep her music alive..

Welcome PLWC1!!!!!!

Yes, near U of M would make sense since his GF works there. Oh well... sounds like yo'uve got enough musicians around the form a band. One of my cousins has a trio that perform in and around Boston. They're always asking me to sing with them but so far I haven't. I may work on one piece to do next time they play the local coffee house. They're a folk group so totally different style than what I"m singing now but I like all music.
