I go to the dr on Thursday and did not even think he would be doing an internal. I thought it is just to check my incision and see how I am doing bec he does not usually see his patients at 4 weeks but is seeing me because of all the pain I was having. The pain has gotten better so I am hoping for no internal.

Pia, congratulations on your pathology report.

dr visit

I'll hope with you, and that he can resolve the source of your pain.

I'm feeling pretty good again. Abdominal hyst, no vaginal packing Yikes I didn't even know about that!!!! My dr 's release papers said to make a 6 week visit. Dagonne, an internal exam??? Now I have 2 weeks to freak out!! Makes sense that he would look though, DUH

I did learn something today. Rutabegas are much too hard to chop up after abdominal surgery. Good excuse for not eating them huh? Foiled by a vegetable.

Bump in the road. Lots of burning down there. It's not a uti, I am already taking cipro (shhh don't tell my dr, I had a scrip so when the burning started I got some, it hasn't helped). Called Dr's and the nurse told me it was most likely a yeast infection. I've never had one. She said monistat 3 day treatment. So, uumm, well, there goes "nothing in the vigina for 6 weeks". I am intimidated by a plastic applicator!

Overall this has not been even half as bad as all of the fears I worked myself up to before surgery. Are you all looking forward to a period free summer?

P.S. I like apple pie too!

First of all ladies, you are way too far away for the apple pies! I live in Elizabethtown, KY so I think they would be cold by the time they got to you What in the sam heck is vaginal packing and would I know it if I had it??? Also, maybe it's just me, but I'm kinda looking forward to the all clear on the marital relations.

I don't know if it makes a difference or not in getting the internal exam, but I had a vaginal hysterectomy. So I guess he had to do the exam that way to check on the stitches he put in (had my cervix removed, too)). I had an internal exam last time I was there as well- I guess because he had to check and see if something was wrong as I was in a ton of pain....
I can't imagine the whole sex thing now- I love the idea of it, but the reality of it!! My baby brother is moving to LA next month, so all my brothers and their wives along with my parents are getting together to throw him a surprise going away party on the 17th. We have to make the almost 4 hour drive to Atlanta by car- and then the party. I'm hoping I'll be OK by then!! I can barely handle a 5 minute drive to the Dr. how am I going to handle nearly 4 hours!?? I never noticed how many potholes there are!! haha. and I am still so swollen- I hope I can still fit into my dress!!! haha- I look about 3 months pregnant. And as I have all brothers, I'm sure they will tease me about it.
All in all- the internal wasn't so bad. Actually, i lie. It was horrible. But if you pop an 800 mg motrin and DON'T pick anything up afterwards you should be fine!!

Before I went to surgery the nurse ran down all the things that would be happening and then said you will have packing that will be removed in 24 hours. That sent a shiver down my spine and I didn't say a word at that point the less I knew the better!

The next morning the resident came in and said I'm going to take out your packing and started pulling up the sheet from the foot of the bed - well I was protecting my "girl" at this point, and like a child I said no no please no, well he was a comediene truly funny althogh at the time not so funny to me! I said what is it and will it hurt? Hes like no and he said its bandage packs with reluctance I unspread the legs and with one hand held on and one hand put my hand very near his so I could push his hand out of the way if it hurt! Well amazing to me he started pulling like a roll of gauze out and was joking 5 more miles of this stuff etc, so really it was a roll of gauze up there....painless but uncomfortable.

The girl next to me had it too, different Dr. That was the scariest thing to me - I don't know why.

I'm kinda looking forward to marital relations again PLWC1, you're not alone.
I had never heard of the v-packing either. Do they do that with all AHs or just a certain procedure(s)?
I don't have to have a 4 week check up, just at 2 & 6 weeks. I'm hoping I'll get out of the internal exam. (Enough humiliation already!)
Anything else I should know about before I get there on 3/21?

I didn't have packing, either. I didn't know it was even an option for the surgeon! One of the nurses asked me if i had packing in- this was about an hour after they put me in my room after surgery and I was in soooooooo much intense pain and on pain meds and I just remember staring at her and asking what in the world she was talking about. I guess i had been complaining and she thought it might be the packing. Um- HELLO! I had some of my major girlie organs removed a few hous ago and the only thing you can think of that might be causing pain is PACKING?

and one more thing...

I just wanted to offer a glimmer of hope for all you that are still suffering in pain so much. I'm still having aches and pains but it is nowhere NEAR what it was. I'll be 4 weeks on Thursday around 2:30 (but who's counting) and I'm really starting to feel better. i'm a pretty stubborn person, so I wasn't really following all the cardinal rules about bending and drinking lots of water and stuff. I think that may have extended my recovery a bit. but all in all I'm almost healed.
I noticed that once I was off the narcotic pain meds my bowels tried to get back to normal. i am still taking a vicodin every now and then, but the gas pains are gone completly and constipation is on its way out, too. Wow- pardon the pun.
I know we all heal differently, but we all DO heal. slowly but surely, one day you jsut start feeling better and the next day more so. If we just ease back into normal daily living and routines I think the time will pass quickly.
Now please remind me of this sage advice when I'm on here complaining again tomorrow.
hug to you all!!!

From what you all have said I realize now that I had no packing!!!! I had an abdominal hyst. so maybe that''s why.

Also, I'm going to wear a sign around my neck that says, "Please don't feed the hystersister!!" Oatmeal to stave off hunger, Cin. roll from Daddy, Momma took me lunch at Red Lobster, son wanted to order out Pizza--3 pieces for me and then my husband had a surprise for me--he was so excited--a piece of homemade cheesecake. I have got to get back to weight watchers.
