Tips for recovery... from someone who learned!

My surgery was May 14th..laparoscopic hysterectomy, I kept one ovary.

The past 9 weeks have have been very trying for me. I have learned to be patient with myself, how to do nothing and how to be in the moment.

This is what I learned, I hope it helps someone and I am sharing in hopes others do not make the same mistakes I did.

This is not the time to be stubborn or to be Superwoman, listen to your doctor.

If your spouse cleans but not the way you do, be grateful they put forth effort. The house will not collapse if it isn't done your way!

Netflix is your best friend. Get some adult coloring books, word searches, puzzles.

Do not compare your healing to anyone else's. Everyone heals differently.

Post op sex is scary...it takes a patient and supportive partner, my husband is a true blessing. I have to admit I was afraid after reading other's posts. It is actually exciting, we feel like we are getting to know one another all over again after 30 years together. I didn't realize how my pre surgery body was affecting my sex life, post surgery is so much better. No pain and no discomfort! My cervix and bladder were fused together, I had a lot of scar tissue and ovarian cysts. I was worried I would feel different to my husband, but all is good!

I was so worried about feeling like my old self, turns out I feel like a new and improved version of myself. I am much more relaxed and living in the moment.

Trust me, I had many days where I felt sorry for myself, my confidence plummeted, I regretted having the surgery. I still have discomfort when I over do it and am learning my limitations. My doctor said it can take 6 months to completely heal!!

I didn't realize how tough the recovery would be mentally and physically.

So be kind and gentle with yourself, healing is a process that cannot be rushed. I am a control freak so that was a tough thing to come to terms with.

Hugs to all of you!!
