which hrt is the least with side effects?

I am going for my 1st post op appt. today..2 weeks post op. I am not on any hrt, just otc estrogen. So far, so good, my hot flashes have diminshed. I may ask my doctor for a script for a form of hrt, incase I need it down the road.
My question is: What is the least one as far as side effects, very confused as far as oral, vaginal, the patch? I was in natural estrogen overload before my hyst and felt horrible. I actually feel great without anything...but that may change later down the road.

Hi!

Hormone therapy isn't one size fits all, so what works well for one of us may be horrible for another.

My personal preference is to use transdermal bio-identical hormones. Starting on estrogen only, I think the patches are a good way to go. Climara (changed once a week) and Vivelle Dot (changed twice a week) are two popular choices women here in the Jungle use. Other bio-identical transdermal choices are Estrasorb and EstroGel. If you prefer to take a pill, Estrace is a bio-identical choice.

There is a vaginal ring for treatment of menopause symptoms. It's called Femring. It doesn't start out as a bio-identical estrogen but does convert to the same estradiol which is in the other bio-identical estrogens I mentioned.

To learn more about estrogen choices, check out articles #10 - 13 in this link to the Hormone Jungle Articles. You can then discuss your preferences with your doctor. Maybe your doctor will have some free samples so you can try some different things.

I hope your appointment goes well!
