Seeking Adenomyosis specialists in the NYC area

Hi. I just joined this group yesterday and have already gotten such great information - what a great resource and support network! I was recently diagnosed with Adenomyosis after suffering with heavy, painful periods for many, many years. They were getting worse and I knew I had fibroids so I assumed maybe the fibroids got worse. I was also told I likely have Endometrosis. I'm fortunate that my Gyno is familiar with Adenomyosis and sent me for an MRI to look for that as well as fibroids. My MRI came back with severe, diffuse Adenomyosis. My gyno suggested we try an IUD first but I'm opposed to this course for several reasons and would like to explore other possible options before committing to a hysterectomy. I'm 48 and live in the NYC area but I'm having a lot of trouble finding Adenomyosis specialists who take insurance (I found a few but none take insurance). I like my doctor, but have had a few issues with him and would like a second opinion.

Wondering if anyone has any recommendations of Gyno's in NYC for this? I'm probably going to end up getting a hysterectomy anyway but would prefer to find a doctor familiar with Adenomyosis. Please send me a private message with any doctor recommendations. I appreciate any and all feedback and suggestions!! Thanks so much.

Re: Seeking Adenomyosis specialists in the NYC area

Hi Leeman, I'm in the Texas area so I don't have any recommendations in the NY area. I just wanted to let you know that I, too, have adenomyosis and actually did go down the path of IUD. I really hated it and I am scheduled to have a TAH on 2/27. The IUD really messed with me emotionally and caused terrible exhaustion. I think you're smart in looking to other solutions other than the IUD. I also didn't want ablation so here I am at 43 getting a hysterectomy in the hopes of not being in constant pain every month and dealing with a Carrie like scenario in the bathroom lol. Good luck in your search and I hope you find what you need soon!
