Serous carcinoma diagnosis

Good morning all.

I came on this board briefly in 2019 when I had my vaginal hysterectomy. I've been reading again while I waited for removal of a large mass.

Back in September, I made a gyn appointment as my stomach seemed swollen. Without any other symptoms (and frankly overeating regularly so I thought I was just getting chubbier), I figured a regular checkup was a good start. A couple weeks later, I'm laying on my bed and noticed my right side stuck up more. I called the gyn office and said I really wanted to visit for this concern, not just a regular checkup. They booked me for an ultrasound and my gyn right after for late September.

She came in and told me it was likely an endometrioma but big or weird growths go to the gyn onc. Given the mass was 18 cm, I got referred to gyn onc.

i saw the gyn onc mid-October. She wanted to check my CA-125 levels and perform an MRI. She told me she could do laparoscopy if the lab and MRI results were consistent with an endometrioma. Otherwise I would need a laparotomy with a vertical incision.

CA-125 was elevated at 52. MRI findings were consistent with a tumor rather than an endometrioma. It did indicate no free fluid and no adenopathy, which is at least encouraging. Laparotomy was now the plan.

I had my surgery yesterday. The tumor was 20 cm, taken out intact. She said there was no evidence of soread and I'm tentatively stage 1. We need the full pathology report to determine any microscopic issues. But the frozen section indicated high grade serous carcinoma.

She told me she wants to do chemo no matter what. I'm anxious to hear results and praying it's just stage 1!

Here for another day or two before going home. Thanks for packing list suggestions as I've got my pillow for the drive home, slide on hard bottom slippers and loose clothing to wear while I recover.

Thank you! I'm still nervous about them finding microscopic implants during the full path report. But that encourages me a lot to know you've survived this!

Pathology came back. Peritoneal washing atypical cells. Everything else looked good! Thanks for the encouragement!
