My Cancer Story
In Sept 2009 I went to Gyn because I thought I felt a lump on my left breast. I made an appt. ( It was 7 years since my last checkup )for a breast exam. When my gyn came in the exam room she was surprised to see me and said since you are here I am going to give you a full exam. A week later she called and said my pap came back highly abnormal that this type is usually malignant to come in right away and she will do a colposcopy in the office. Had to wait another 10 days for results (the waiting for result has to be one of the worst parts). When she called she said it was positive for adenocarcinoma in-situ cervical cancer stage 2 , I will need a cone biopsy next that this is usually in its early stages. On Sept. 18 I went in for a cone biopsy (which is ambulatory) it took about 2 hours. I felt some cramping afterwards and bled for about 3 weeks. Those results took 2 weeks (I thought I would go crazy). SHe called and confirmed that it was AIS cervical cancer-stage 2 and I will have to have a hysterectomy. She gave me the number of a Gyn/Onc because they would do the surgery together. I called him the next day and saw him 2 days later. I went to see him and he explained the type of cancer and he would have to see all pathology reports before doing surgery. That from my cone biopsy report the invasion was 3.7 cm in width and the sugery would be more invasive. I had to wait another 3 weeks anyway after having cone before surgery. On Oct. 30 I was scheduled for a radical hysterectomy/BSO w lymph node dissection. The surgery was 6 hours and he was going to thin the wall of my bladder during surgery. I was in the hospital 5 days and went home with a catheter for 2 weeks after surgery. The hysterectomy report came back with negative margins, uterus negative, ovaries negative and lymph nodes clear. I would not need any further treatment there was no residual cancer. THANK GOD!
