Fluid under skin

I have fluid that built under the skin above my incision site that they had to drain that is filliing up again. It is also starting to hurt when I pee but does not feel like a bladder infection. Has anyone else run into this complication? I'm on antibiotics but they don't think its an infection. Help!

It sounds like you may have a seroma............Is that what your doc is calling it?

Seromas are not infections, but collections of clear, straw-colored fluid that your body produces to fill in "air space" that can be inadvertently left under your skin after being stretched, as is done during surgery.
I had a seroma. It took exactly 2 weeks to finish draining and heal closed. I was also put on antibiotics to prevent any infection from getting in, once the area had been opened up. I was so afraid at the time, that I felt like I would always have that hole in my belly. Here are a couple of past threads that might help:

Will hope that yours is but a memory, soon, too......s....Deb

Must be what I had, although doctors don't fill you in. You have to ask the sisters! The day after I had my staples out at 2 weeks, I bent over in my chair to set a bowl on the floor, and my incision split open a couple of inches, with a big fluid gush followed by light blood. Freaked me out totally, and I leaned back and called for my daughter to tape me back together with band-aids until I could get to the doctor. I have 2 doctors, as I had a colon resection at the same time. The gyn was having me pack the hole with peroxide soaked gauze a couple of times a day. Didn't seem to be getting much better, although it was not infected looking. My colon doctor grimaced when I told her how I had been caring for it, and called my gyn old-fashioned. She had me just leave it alone, cover lightly with gauze to allow it to continue to drain, and then the next week she steri-stripped it together when the draining had stopped. She said the peroxide actually kills new cells that are trying to form.
