Has anyone had any panic attacks (severe) to switching to bioidentical hormones after being on estratest hs?

Re: Panic Attack and Bioidenticals

I'm on bi-est along with progesterone and panic attacks got better. Are you on progesterone at all? Have you had your levels checked? I was first just put on progesterone and I was on the vivelle patch .05mg. Started to get horrible daily anxiety and panic attacks at least 2-3 times a week. Progesterone really helped me out. I still get anxiety if I get stressed out but no panic attacks.

Re: Panic Attack and Bioidenticals

I am so happy to see someone else who had their surgery a long time ago. I started all of them at once. Progesterone is 100 mg. Estradiol 1 mg. estreol 2 mg. Testosterone 2 mg. Not sure about this dosage. All I know is that I was on Estratest hs for years and had never had symptoms like severe panic attacks. I live in New York and I made an appointment with a hormone specialist here, but I have to wait until she can see me on June 30th. The other doctor didn't seem too up on things. I am seeing my Oncologyst on Tuesday, but I'm sure he will tell me to stick to the old fashioned hrt. I'm so bewildered. Thank you for reaching out to me Any other suggestions would be welcomed.

Re: Panic Attack and Bioidenticals

That's a pretty high dose of testosterone. I have read articles here and there that testosterone can cause anxiety. My testosterone amount is .02ml a day.
I was on the vivelle patch for over 20 years and had NO issues until a couple years ago and then it all just hit me like a rock. One of my Dr.'s told me it was the stress of my endurance horse racing for many years that took its toll and finally my body just couldn't deal with the stress. The first lab work I did, my estradiol was only 62 and progesterone was basically nil along with the testosterone.

Re: Panic Attack and Bioidenticals

I just called the compounding pharmacy to verify the fact that it is indeed 2 mg. I thought maybe it was .02 after I read your email. I think that is the problem. I am still afraid to do these hormones. In your opinion, did you ever figure out why you had your panic attacks?

Thanks a million

Re: Panic Attack and Bioidenticals

I think my panic attacks were from low hormones and unbalanced ones as well.

Re: Panic Attack and Bioidenticals

I would start with one hormone at a time...then add gradually, starting with estrogen. I used some bio-testosterone cream (2mg) for about 1 .5 years mixed with my estrogen and had alot of anxiety and unwanted hair growth. I stopped the testosterone and felt much better..but now, losing tons of hair?its been a nightmare trying to figure this all out.
Each of the hormone doc's Ive saw say something different..too much, not enough etc..good luck to you though.......start slow!

Re: Panic Attack and Bioidenticals

Thank you so much for your advise. I think the 2 mg. of testosterone is whats giving me the panic attacks. I am also on 3 mg of estrogen and 100 mg. of progesterone. I think all of these levels are too hight for me.

I am seeing another doctor the end of June (had to wait two months for an appt.) hopefully she will be worth the wait !

Re: Panic Attack and Bioidenticals

I'm on 3.5mg estradiol, 80mg of progesterone and .02ml test. I'm dropping the estradiol down to 3mg next re-fill which will be this week. I've been on the 3.5 now for about 4 months and doing fine except my labs showed a 700 on estradiol but I have NO symptoms of high estrogen.

Re: Panic Attack and Bioidenticals

Had you been on hrt since your surgery? I had been on estratest since 1991. I cut back to twice a week since all the stuff came out about hrt.
I am so confused with all these bioidenticals. I just don't want another panic attack
