Skip the D&C?

Hello again Melissa-

Thanks for the reply. Fortunately, 4 Advil every 6 hours seems to have helped some. i'm not limping anymore and the pains are fewer and further in between. Thank god I thought I was going to go crazy for a bit there!

What took me in initially was to discuss PCOS with my doctor, and she suggested a Mirena IUD to keep my lining thin. then they did an ultrasound to see if my uterus was big enough for the IUD, and they saw that my lining had thickened and looked irregular..so that's where the biopsy and subsequent diagnosis came from.

I was shocked initially, but after doing some internet surfing, the prognosis was bad enough for me that I'd rather lose my uterus than lose my life. I have a 4 year old daughter and she needs her mommy...so the decision has been pretty simple for me. I think I'd be freaking out more if they planned to take my ovaries, but for now they are just saying it will be my uterus. So unless they find something scary when they go inside, I should be keeping my ovaries.

Jaderaven, can you tell me what the endo biopsy was like? I have been diagnosed with at least a dozen smaller fibroids and polyps. Due to insurance coverage I cant afford to do all the tests. My doctor says the biopsy is the best tool to use for a diagnosis. I am nervous about the test. Any advice at all?

Hello there...re the biopsy...the only advice I can give you is to relax. For me, I absolutely didn't feel a thing. But before the procedure, they told me I would feel cramping. I wouldn't go in there expecting to feel nothing, but I would expect any discomfort you feel to be mild. They just gave me a few motrin, and then put this plastic tube into my cervix, then somehow applied suction to remove some tissue.

And I'm not an expert on this stuff, but I'd let them do the biopsy because you don't want to let it go and then find out later you have cancer. Better to let them catch bad cells early than to put it off and then have cancer....financially havng a biopsy is a heck of a lot cheaper than chemo and other treatments needed should they find cancer at a later date. Just my humble opinion.

I also had an endometrial biopsy this summer as part of the testing after the abnormal pap. My experience was like Jaderaven's -- it feels like strong cramps briefly, but not bad. I bled a little afterwards, but it wasn't much.

Thanks you guys. I had the sonohysterogram yesterday which showed 10 fibroids all over the place. the biggest one just larger than a walnut and protruding into the uterus. That has been causing the bleeding. No polyps. So the doctor said I should still have the endometrial biopsy and start the bcp to control symptoms. I guess we will take the watchful waiting approach. I am lucky because a lot of the women on this site have much worse symtoms than I do. I am dreading the pills and possible side effects but its better than surgery, right? I wonder if I will need bcp until menopause? What a drag.

I'm glad there is a less aggressive approach for you! Keep us posted! I hope the BCP work well for you! And they can try different brands to see which ones give you the least side effects!
