Going crazy, Lady in waiting

My name is Tiffany aka Dreamyx3, My hysterectomy is in 8 days and I am getting mean, grumpy, scared. I want to clean and stay busy but I get mad and say heck with it and end up not cleaning at all. My kids must think I am going nuts. I am now having these weird feelings of dying! I have been reading "Through the land of hyster/The hyster sisters guide" but I am still really scared! Please help!

Hi, Tiffany, and

You sound just like I was a week before my surgery--grumpy, scared, and basically impossible to be around. I was completely freaking out. Although I wasn't afraid of dying, I was terrified of the recovery process and was a big baby about everything. Be assured that everything you're feeling right now is completely normal.

Have you looked through our Pre-Op Resources page? You'll find links to frequently asked questions, articles, and other resources. You can also sign up for the hysterectomy checkpoints to be emailed to you as you prepare for surgery and then move through your initial recovery. (You'll need to add your surgery date to your profile first, though: Go to your control panel and click on Edit Profile. Scroll down toward the bottom to put in your date.)

I'm so glad you found us. Continue to post new questions and concerns here. I was greatly comforted by knowing how normal my experiences and questions were. Before you know it, you'll be on the post-op board telling us about your recovery!

Of course you are scared. That is only natural. If it helps at all, a number of us actually felt a calm come over us once we checked into the hospital. Anything about the actual process of the surgery that is frightening will happen once you are unconscious. You will be given a sedative before going into the ER, so those moments that seem like they will be terrifying will likely not be a part of your experience. Hang in there, Tiffany. Your kids will have the mom you want to be back again. Please keep us posted on your progress!

I was not doing well either, but then I stopped and asked myself why. I found I had a lot of doubts and questions, so I burned up the internet and learned so much. I was doubting my decision, worried about the surgery and the recovery, and on, and on, and on.

I was able to come to the place where I trusted my decision. By the time of my pre-op appointment, I only had four questions for my surgeon, and he was great about everything. I came away feeling empowered and confident. After that, I had virtually no fear and actually wanted to just get it over with!

I am now 9 days post-op, and I am doing really well. Better than I would have every expected. I really think my positive attitude helped me through this, and continues to be a benefit. I hope you can figure out what is bringing you all the stress so you can address it. All my best to you! Take care!

hi Dreamyx3,
Our surgeries are on the same day. I know exactly how you are feeling, I have been gong through the same thing. I had to apologize to my husband earlier, I find myself being veery snappy with him and my kids. I also told him it will probably happen again before next monday. The ladies are really helpful and supportive.
My thoughts are with you.
