Re: Keep or Lose My Ovaries

I had adenomyosis as well. There was no questions as to whether i should remove my ovaries, they looked fine in all my diagnostic tests so prior to surg it was agreed that unless the doctor sees something that didnt show up on my mri i was keeping them. There wasnt any family history of ovarian cancer so i choose to keep them in. Good luck w/surg and remember this is your body unless the dr. Gives u better reasons than what she/he did i would tell dr. U want to keep them unless proven otherwise.

Re: Keep or Lose My Ovaries

My dr. didn't even consider taking out my ovaries. I'm 36 and they are healthy. She said I was too young and she avoids taking ovaries unless there is something wrong with them. I would've gone to another dr. if she wanted to take them since I've had no problems with them. I wanted to avoid surgical menopause for sure.

Re: Keep or Lose My Ovaries

My doctor asked me if I wanted them removed. I told him I wanted to keep them. I want to naturally go through menopause and didn't want to take hormone therapy.

Re: Keep or Lose My Ovaries

I am 45 . I had my hysterectomy a week ago today. I was faced with the same decision . I chose to have my doctor remove both ovaries . I love the fact I will not have to keep worrying that my ovaries would have become cancerous too.

Re: Keep or Lose My Ovaries

It's such a personal decision to take your ovaries or keep them. I am 39 and had a radical hysterectomy on June 1st. My doctor wanted to keep my ovaries if they were healthy (once they were in surgery and could make the determination). For me though, my family history of reproductive cancers, breast cancer, uterine, etc... was what made me choose to take the estrogen-makers out of my body. So I requested pre-surgery that both would be removed. Once the surgeon was inside, he found that my ovaries were so diseased (endometriosis and hemorrhaging cysts) - that there was no choice but to take them anyway.

My only advice is to listen to your own intuition after obtaining as much information from your surgeon as possible. Be well and best of luck to you on your surgery and recovery.

Re: Keep or Lose My Ovaries

I am also having Hysterectomy due to Adenomyosis. I also have had many cysts on my ovaries. Some no problems and some ended me up in the ER.

My doctor suggested that I have my ovaries removed because there is a good possibility I would end up for surgery later on to remove them. She let me make the final choice. I chose to have them both remove and use an Estrogen patch. I am 40 and will be using patch for a while to come but rather do with out the pain.

Good luck with your surgery.. God Bless
