Re: Pre-Op Hysterectomy: Open House Chat Thread - Today Apr 18, 2021

Hi, my name is Tammy. Age 43. 3 kids, all born via c-section. Have also had RNY Gastric Bypass, and gallbladder removed. I am having the DaVinci hysterectomy on Friday 4/23. My biggest concerns are adhesions, and my size.... but also recovery. I’ve never had to be completely alone in the hospital, either.

Looking forward to meeting you all today and over the next few weeks on your Recovery Progress Report thread when your on the other side. I will be your SunshineSister.

Today is a good day to finish prepping your nest. Where you plan to relax, rest and give your body time to heal. It could be your favorite recliner as well as your bed. Also prep any food items that could be helpful for your family or you to warm in the first few weeks of your recovery. Patience will be your friend as you heal. So prep your brain to allow what ever time your body needs to heal. You will heal faster if you keep things quiet in your lower ab.

Please feel free to ask any questions today.

Will be thinking of you. And in spirit you won’t be alone we here at HS are with you, so as soon as you feel like posting check into the recovery thread. At the Hospital your nurses will be there for you. A thought about adhesions, if it turns out that you have some from your previous procedures your Drs will set you as right as possible, then after in your recovery keep things quiet down there so you won’t develop new ones. Remember taking things slowly and one day at a time will help you heal right. See you on the other side.

Re: Pre-Op Hysterectomy: Open House Chat Thread - Today Apr 18, 2021

Hi folx! I’m 46, getting a total hysterectomy but keeping my ovaries. Surgery is Friday. Following surgery is finals for college so that’s going to add a twist. No, they can’t be moved and no I can’t fail or re-do the courses - long story. My husband has OCD so he’s freaking out. This is my first surgery and I’m freaking out. I’m off rheumatoid arthritis meds and that’s also causing issues.

Mostly sitting here this morning trying to swallow down my first impact drink pre-surgery. It’s so thick! So extra fake vanilla. I’m going to have to do some add ins.

I started cleaning...working on coursework to get ahead. Doctor called and said no cancerous cells found in my tests, but I do have an underlying endo infection. I’ve been pretty sick all week. Started anti-anxiety meds too to help.

My MIL is coming to help for a few days and she had a total (ovaries too) at age 45. I’m grateful she’s coming.

Looking forward to the chatter with you all today.

Re: Pre-Op Hysterectomy: Open House Chat Thread - Today Apr 18, 2021

I'm counting down days till my procedure on Wednesday. My 23 year old son is flying in tomorrow to help me out. I'm 59, in great shape, and having a total excluding ovaries. It'll be a laparoscopic procedure, so I hope it stays that way. I haven't had many surgeries except for 2 c-sections. I've also been using a Bioidentical hormone pellet for over a year and taking progesterone, so I'm hoping that all helps keep my recovery simple as compared to women who are still menstruating and having this procedure. I can imagine that would be more life changing than having it post menopause. My biopsy showed no cancer, so I hope that also stays the same once pathology tests the rest.
I'm a Jr. High teacher, so I've finished planning for the 4 weeks I'm taking off. I've told my students that I'll be out and assured them that I'll be fine. That's the hardest part for me - being out of school. I'm only in the hospital overnight. I think I'm ready. I've read a lot of posts on this site. I'm mostly nervous about the unplanned fatigue that pops up, but I'll have my son for week one of post op and then my step-mom flies in for week 2. By week 3, I hope to be fairly self sufficient. I'm also planning to go back school after the 4 week mark to wrap up the year for the last 2 weeks. I'm trying to stay open minded, but I'm now getting worried about whether or not I'll be fully functioning by June to enjoy my summer time camping and Mt biking.
Best of luck to you all!

Re: Pre-Op Hysterectomy: Open House Chat Thread - Today Apr 18, 2021

Abby & Queen,

Sounds like you both have some challenges ahead. My advice is really rest as long as you can in the first few days. Glad to hear no Cancer cells found so far.

Abby, I understand about life going on. I hope you have some breaks between your finals. Put those feet up and rest to help the pressure that can build up from both being on your feet or sitting straight up for too long.

Queen, rest as much as you can these first weeks and don’t try to hurry your healing. Quiet in your lower ab and pelvic floor will help your body hell as fast as it can. When you do go back to teaching vary your positions with walking and sitting but as little just standing as possible(this can cause pressure in the pelvic floor). Glad you are going to have good help.

To All: the best exercise you can do right away is gentle walking , with the emphasis on gentle. This activity will keep good circulation in the surgery area. Try walking around your living room, down the hall, and too the bathroom and kitchen. About 5 min every hour you are awake. This will help not getting congestion from swelling in your lower ab and pelvic floor so you have good blood flow in the surgical area.

Hope my suggestions make sense and will help you all get off on a good foot. Also hope it’s OK if I shorten your names or use your real manes when you give them. You will find that it doesn’t take long for me to feel close to you all.

Sister Hugs,

Pre-Op Hysterectomy: Open House Chat Thread - Today Apr 18, 2021

Hi my name is Courtney. I am 31 years old with no kids and I am scheduled to have my surgery on 4/21. I want to keep both of my ovaries and my cervix though the doctor stated that he would see if he needed to take it or not during surgery. I will be have it done through my abdomen. The original reason I decided to have a hysterectomy is because I randomly got blood clots in my leg and my lungs and they determined it was due to numerous fibroids and an enlarged uterus most likely pinched a vein. I worry about a lot in regards to my mental health, dealing with the idea of never having kids and currently things I would need to recover after surgery, like do I need special clothing or new underwear? I've had a large fibroid removed when I was 23 but I dont remember much about recovery. I'm just really nervous because I would have never imagined having to go through this. I think I will be okay lol. I'm glad I found this group because I don't really have a lot of people to talk to around me or understand why I cry when I'm randomly crying for no reason lol. Thanks!

Re: Pre-Op Hysterectomy: Open House Chat Thread - Today Apr 18, 2021

Greetings All, I am 65, and having an abdominal hysterectomy, bikini cut, because of endometrial cancer. I suspected a problem in January, got to the specialist mid march, when they scheduled a hysteroscopy, and polyp removal for April 22, and did a biopsy. On march 30 I got the 'upgrade?' to a full hysterectomy, all inclusive. ovaries, too. I'm trying to keep the humour going as I self-isolate. As a small girl, my mother and grandmother were discussing a hysterectomy, and I asked what it meant. My gran replied "It means the doctors took away my baby buggy, but left my playpen behind" was years before I understood that.

Hi Courtney, I cannot say I know how you feel about no daughter chose to be child-free, as have others I know. I hear ya about wardrobe! I've asked here, and been told loose jogging pants, dresses, that sort of thing. Undies? hmm I don't know either, but if you want new undies, get them. It will help you feel in control of something!
