TVH Feb 3rd..any last minute tips?
Hi ladies! I'm scheduled for February 3rd and am getting very nervous and scared. I know the waiting is going to be the worst part, but I can't help but be scared. Do any of you hyster veterans have any last minute tips or suggestions for me?
I plan on getting a pedicure tomorrow...hopefully that will calm my nerves a little. I've been keeping busy with laundry and cleaning today.
Maybe I'm just stressed. Last weekend we found out my step dad had a massive brain tumor. They scheduled surgery for Monday and removed all that they could. It was sent for biopsy and came back malignant. Thankfully surgery went well and he is already back home! Now he is scheduled for radiation and chemo. So my mom and him can't come see me after surgery. My dad is coming though because DH has to work the rest of the week.
Anyway, sorry for the long post. I'm just nervous.

Hi Sue
You will be fine, of course you're nervous. Having a pedicure is a great idea, if you have time why not treat yourself to a facial as well. Getting the chores done is also good as it is nice to come home to an organised home, I felt like I was nesting again the week before my surgery. The waiting is the worst part I was a nervous wreck but once I got to the hospital I calmed down and before I knew it I was in recovery.
Take a look at the hints posts there are some good hints there. One thing I would have been lost without was my chap stick. I also think mints of lozenges are a good idea cos you don't want to even clear your throat let alone cough after surgery!!
Take care & don't forget pamper the princess both before & after surgery.!!

Sue,
I wish you all the best. Give yourself time to recover. I found waiting was the hardest part. I agree about the chap stick. I only stayed one night so I didn't have a lot to prepare for as far as that went. One thing that helped me was a pillow to hold on my stomach. That came in handy more than I thought. I wasn't prepared for how tired I would be. It took 4 weeks before I returned to work, and then it was part time for 4 hours a day, and I started full time 2 weeks ago. I still get tired, but NOTHING like before. Actually my family was commenting today that they could tell I was feeling better, because I was starting to return to my sassy self. I am not sure what all you are having done, but I will say that going into surgical menopause wasn't what I was expecting. Insomnia has been hard. Just give yourself time. You will do wonderful, and I will say a prayer for you.

TVH Feb 3rd..any last minute tips?
Hi Sue. I am five weeks out from a TVH. The two things I absolutely needed in the hospital were chapstick and my iPod. I took books and puzzles and didn't even touch them. When I came home, I had a nice little basket to carry around my medicines, chapstick, cellphone, iPod, and cards that cheered me up.
I'm sorry to hear about your stepdad. That is stress that you don't need right now. It's good that your dad can come so you have someone with you who cares about you and can be your advocate in the hospital.
The last few days before surgery are the hardest, and before you know it, we'll be seeing you on the post-op board.

Thanks ladies! I appreciate the comforting words. I'm nervous and just needed to have some reassurance.
Just seems like a lot of stuff has gone on this past week, and I feel like I'm not going to be done with the laundry and house and stuff before surgery. I still have a whole day to go, so hopefully that's not the case. And I could be obsessing about that a little right now. Maybe because I won't be doing any of that once I come home.
I have taken the day off work tomorrow. So it will be a full day of taking care of everything...and taking care of ME before I head to the castle. I can't believe it's coming up so quickly. it seems like not long ago it was SO far away! It's even harder to believe I've had my last period! I am very ready for the surgery, just very nervous!!
Thanks again ladies! I'm sure I'll be on here more tomorrow! Even more nervous too!!!

My tip would be to remember that you can never be as fully prepared as you'd like to be! Just remember to breathe, and waiting is definitely the worst part. I'm three days out from a SAH and even though I'm hurting I can still say that the week leading up to the surgery was the worst part!

I'll have mine on the 3rd, too. I'm taking off of work tomorrow too, for a MH day for myself. I'm going to pamper myself at the nail salon and get a relaxing massage as well. I can't seem to settle down, and hopefully that will help. I'm tired, but can't seem to sleep. I've tried to do housework ahead of time, but there's still a lot to do. So, what's not done, won't be -- I can't stress on that one; I've just got a lot racing through my mind. Take care. Hopefully, we'll both be back online later this week.
