3 days to surgery and I'm having a meltddown

I was doing pretty good until this afternoon when I started feeling very emotional all of a sudden. I've been crying and having doubts and worrying. Mostly I worry about being worse off than now. I'm not really in any serious pain, just backaches which I have lived with for years. But I have large fibroids, enlarged uterus and had an abnormal pap this summer do to endometrial cells in the cervix. I am worried about menopause after reading some of the posts on the Hormone Jungle. I am not ready to experience some of the symtoms that are talked about there (panic attacks, heart palpitaions, insomnia etc) Hot flashes and night sweats I have had and were not bad but what if I really get zapped with some serious "stuff"? Tomorrow I see the surgeon and I'm sure it will help to talk to him. Anyway I just needed to get some of this off my chest. So glad you all are there to listen. Rita

Think being nervous is normal - talk to your doctor about your concerns - it REALLY helps.

We're almost the same age and I was also nervous about the surgical menopause thing. That was the part of the surgery that had me concerned although I thought originally that I would have the ovaries removed. Surgeon and main doc both thought it was best to have them removed because of my age, but I decided to keep them two days before surgery based on my particular situation. If you read other posts here however, many have had their ovaries removed and have done great.

Let us know how you're doing!

I lived with backaches and heavy bleeding for years, too. I didn't have all the bad pain that other people talk about. I thought I was fairly ok, actually. In June I had a total hysterectomy and it was the best thing I ever did. I'm 38, ovaries are gone, I take cenestin and have never had a hot flash since surgery. I feel really great and am amazed at how awful I felt before (now that I can compare). The surgery is scary, the unknown is scary, but it really can be better then you ever imagined.
