TLH: Pre-Op Question...need help!

I'm having a TLH and also removing the left ovary/tube due to a very large cyst on Jan 6th. My right ovary also has a cyst, but it's small. I am undecided as to whether I should also have the right ovary removed. It would mean I wouldn't have any more worries, but it would also put into surgical menopause, which terrifies me! I'm 47 1/2 and have Fibromyalgia, which comes with a host of issues, including extreme fatigue, pain and insomnia. I'm barely functional now, due to the Fibro, and am scared to death that removing both ovaries would make me completely non-functional, on the other hand, I worry that leaving the ovary could cause problems later on and I'd have to subject myself to yet another surgery. Taking HRT may also NOT be an option for me as I don't do well on medications. Any advice would be greatly helpful, as I'm going in for surgery on Thurs and need to make a decision ASAP!...thanks!

I had surgery in Dec 2008 to have cysts removed on both ovaries and ablation. A few months later the cysts were back and my fibrods had grown.

I had everything removed in March of this year. I have Chronic Fatigue Snydrome and get horrible joint pain. I opted not to do HRT since I already take enough meds. My GP has me on Lexapro because the CFS just made me depressed/anxiety. That has helped with the surgical menopause mood swings. I also take Estroven PM(otc), extra calcium/vit d. The estroven has help with the night sweats and the sleep issues.

I turned 48 20 days after my surgery.

I feel better now than I have in years.

I have and teach natural pain management classes for Fibromyalgia via our local hospital and the little annoying things that come with the fibro. I also had to make the choice your facing now. For me, after doing all the research, it seemed easier to get everything but my cervix taken out. I have huge cysts, fibroids, and endo. Like you I am also 47.5 yrs young. My surgery is set for January 4th.

I had a TLH/BSO in October. Diag. with endo, and told the Doc to take everything because I didn't want to go thru surgery again. Haven't regretted it yet. Start taking HRT the middle of this month. I'm only 43.
