What kind of lip stuff?

When I read what ladies take to the hospital, almost every one mentions chapstick, but it shouldn't have petroleum in case you might need oxygen and it could interfere (somehow).

So, o.k., time is getting short, surgery Monday, went shopping last night, EVERYTHING had petroleum, and my lips gets chapped anyway without any help. You know, even little nit-picking things like chapped lips with NO stuff can get to me right now

So, what did you all get?

I had regular chapstick and I told the "A" guy I had it on. They wiped it off with an alcohol wipe after I was asleep. Worked well for me.

I used regular Chapstick too, but I didn't tell anyone because I didn't know any better. I guess it was OK, because it was still on when I woke up. My eyes were gunky though -- like they put petroleum jelly on them to keep them from drying out. Anyone else have this feeling? I meant to ask those 1st days, but forgot about it until now.

Bleck to that! I didn't have that, good thing too, 'cause I would have freaked out majorly I think! I do wear contacts and I cannot see anything, so I left those at home and wore my glasses. Kept hubby next to me as I had to sign paperwork in pre-op while waiting for the OR.

OooYuck, I KNOW that yucky eye thing. I had that when I had my D&C and the lady at the pre-op at the hospital said they'd do it again for the hyst.

Now, if I could just remember WHY she said they did it

I used Carmex

I love Carmex! Have been using it for years. It has menthol added, and yes.. contains petroleum. Oh well.. they never said anything to me about it. Then again.. I didn't put any on right before going to O.R.

I took along just plain ol' fashioned chap stick in the black and white tube - worked great and no problems!

Hope all goes well for you!

Why not try a night cream? I know it sounds crazy, but night cream is heavier than regular cream/lotion moisturizers. And they cannot have petroleum because your facial pores need to breath.

I used to sell skin care and cosmetics, it is amazing the things you could use for different areas. Like example, lipstick can be used as cream blush. Also, it is worth the investment to get a lip brush because there is at least 1 cm of lipstick left in the tube.

Anyway, many Blessings to you! And lots of

Ditto on Burt's, it works great and contains no petroleum products, just in case of the oxygen thing (which I still don't quite understand).

If you have a Whole Foods Market or natural foods or health/vitamin store near you, they will also have a whole bunch of non-petroleum lip balms to choose from.

Just make sure you take something with you for the chapped lips, I couldn't believe how much I was using my lip balm after surgery!
