Reformer Pilates + How long after LAVH?

I will be going in for a LAVH the end of August and I was wondering when it us generally safe to go back to my reformer pilates exercise> I know I will need to get medical clearance from the Dr but the exercises are pretty ab/core intense.. just worried

I am curious about this too, anybody out there with an answer?

I haven't asked my doctor about this yet, but I did ask my pilates instructor and she said probably at least 8 weeks. And when I do start up again I should start off really slow either at a lower level class or take some private classes with her. I really trust her judgement but as always get it ok'd from your docotor.

I love my reformer pilates class and hope all that strenghtening will help in recovery.

I would say at least 8 weeks. You don't want to use the core muscles until the many stitches are healed. Your doctor will know for sure but I would ease back into it so you don't hurt anything. Best wishes.

Thanks for the replies! I will talk to my Dr when I go back.. even if I showed up in class my Pilates instructor would kick me out. LOL she knows what is going on. I have a home reformer as well but I will start off slow after 8 weeks or when the Dr releases me. I also did some pilates i physical therapy when I had an auto accident so I may go to them for a few sessions when the Dr releases me. My back suffers when i don't do Pilates

I had the abdominal hysterectomy and my doctor took everything. I was ok with his release to go with pilates, slowly. I started at 7 weeks. I do no stomach stuff cause I am scared. I also do the reformer. I start with legs and arms and I do not do as many as the other, but will in time! I also get in the infrared sauna, wonderful. I hope this helps.

I had a TAH/BSO and my doctor made me wait 10 weeks. I begged, for 8 weeks, but she wasn't hearing of it! I worked my butt off prior to surgery and I found getting back into it was just like I never missed those weeks. I really feel it contributed greatly to my awesome recovery. Cake walk.

I had an LAVH and my doctor released me back to full pilates (I do mat classes) after 6 weeks. I was scared though so I started slow at home and then at 8 weeks, went back to the studio for classes. Like BubbaSue, I also worked my butt off before the surgery and went into it in the best shape i've been in in a long time. It really did make a huge difference. Although towards the end of week 6 I could feel my body "slipping", it didn't take long to return to the level I was at before. And bonus...since my lower abdominal area was now rid of my completely fibroid filled uterus, I am now able to go deeper into my practice than ever before!

I'm so excited about seeing how much further my body can go now!
