Magnesium Nitrate? Anyone...

Im wondering how long after you start taking magnesium nitrate does it start working?? My doc told me to start taking in the day before surgery. I am planning on working the day before. And I really don't want to be running off the the bathroom while I have patients.

Magnesium Nitrate? Anyone...

Michelle--

Good luck with your upcoming surgery. These Forums are so helpful and reassuring. I'm glad that you discovered this site beforehand!

The Magnesium Nitrate starts to work in about 15-20 minutes--and it works all day long! Please do yourself a favor--DO NOT work the day before; you will need to be a few yards from the bathroom this entire time!

Drink plenty of water so that you do not become dehydrated, and dust off your sense of humor. Bowel Prep is a rather humbling experience, but really necessary. If you are completely cleaned out, then it will be easier for your surgeon to access your organs, and it will drastically lessen the possibility of infection.

I hope your Dr. already told you the reason for the procedure, but of course I don't know if s/he is a good communicator. I'm sorry to get gross if you already know all this!

Best,
Barb

Michelle, I'm Michelle too. Are you a nurse, b/c I am. I think it would be a great idea for you to take a day off work the day before surgery for a lot of reasons. Fortunately, I didn't have to do a bowel prep of any sort: just my doc's preference I guess. Enjoy your days preceding your hyst. Best of luck w/your work situation. Michelle
