Last week jitters

Hi everyone,
I am scheduled for a LAVH,possible TAH with 1 or both ovaries removed if necessary on Nov.18th. As it's getting closer I have seen a lot of articles singing the praises of The Da Vinci method & am wondering if that would have been a better way. My Dr did not mention it, anyone know the pros & cons. I have an enlarged uterus with lots of fibroids & hx. of endometriosis. Something seen on one ovary also with ultrasound,? what.

Re: Last week jitters

S/he may not have mentioned it because s/he may not have it available in your area or with your hosptial(s). I've had two surgeries, one abdominal, one daVinci. The worst part of the daVinci was the pain from CO2. The worst part of the abdominal was they didn't know what was wrong (endometrial tumor bleeding internally) until lab work came back so I have a 7 inch scar! I actually recovered faster from the abdominal (7 years younger!) than the daVinci.

Re: Last week jitters

Hi Irishiz - I too was *very* nervous the last week pre-op. The sisters here kept me going. Almost everyone gets the countdown nerves. Am very glad that I had the surgery. Sending hugs and positive thoughts.

Re: Last week jitters

My TAH/BSO is in about 3 weeks and the anxiety is about killing me!! Hang in there, it will get better (once it's over, I'm assuming) :-)

Re: Last week jitters

IrishIz -

As others have said the last week is full of jitters. As far as the daVinci procedure, this can depend on your doctor, the location where you are having your surgery and what you are having your surgery for.

If you are available at 9pm US Eastern time tonight thurs 11/12/09 there will be a roundtable chat on the daVinci for endometriosis. From what I have learned on this site the primary thing regarding endometriosis is the skill of the surgeon, it is a recommendation to have endometriosis surgery performed by an endometrial specialist regardless of the tools or type of operation they use.

I don't know if your Dr. is a specialist or not. The daVinci is a robotic assisted laproscopic surgery. The surgeon utilizes the robotic system to perform the surgery. Some doctors use CO2 lasers to perform endometriosis surgery and these aren't available for use with the daVinci surgery.

I hope this helps and sending you big

G.
