ok am having hives

just today I noticed I started having hives....they come and go....terrible itching...anyone else have this?

I really am not stressing out......I have kept busy with my ordinary things, have been doing some successful retail therapy and don't understand why my body is doing this..

Re: ok am having hives

Are you taking any new medication? I know that pre-op the doctors don't want us to take any medication without their approval, but there may be some cream that can be prescribed. I had hives a few days before my emergency appendectomy and was prescribed a cream for it. I think it was my body responding to infection (my opinion). Call your doctor's office tomorrow to see if there is something they can prescribe or if you should use Benadryl cream.

Re: ok am having hives

Hi, Are you sure you aren't just a little bit nervous about surgery? I have been trying to stay calm and occupied, but I am having bowel problems. I tend to have it when I am nervous. Sometimes we can be worried without realizing it. I would give my docotr a call and see what they suggest. Best of luck to you.

Re: ok am having hives

no new meds.....my dh and I were at Walgreens getting magnesium citrate and other goodies for the colonoscopy when I started breaking out and since it comes and goes......from my hands to the bottom of my feet.......

I will call the dr's office in the am.....this is crazy...as if having to have the colonoscopy the day before a RALH wasn't bad enough.........

Re: ok am having hives

I've got the itchies and some redness, but in my case it is from the pain meds the doctor just put me on.

Good luck getting rid of the rash and itches...and best wishes on your surgery.

Re: ok am having hives

I have mysteriously gotten hives offand on since the birth of my son almost 9 years ago. Benadryl makes them go away but knocks me out. Since I started having "female" trouble and researching Estrogen dominance (I have hyperplasia) one of the symptoms I read aobut was actually allergies and hives..don't know if this is any connection in your case, buti would be fascinated to learn if anyone else has experienced this.

Re: ok am having hives

I had hives when I went in for the laparascopy that I had before my radical surgery. I was nervous about it because it would become clear what stage my cancer was in.
It started the night before and lasted for about 5 days. My GP said it was a reaction of my body, like fever. He thought it a good sign, though he realised it was uncomfortable for me. If I wanted he could prescribe something - but I didn't want him to. I used menthol talcum powder instead.

Wish you well for your surgery wednesday and send you lots of positive thoughts.
