Is this routine?

I am having a hyster. because of uterine fibroids. When I went to my appt. yesterday, the dr. did a cervical biopsy. He says it's routine.
Is it really routine or is he just trying to make me less scared? I'm worried to death over this.

Is this routine?

Hi CajunBabe, My doctor did the same test on me and I have a prolapsed Uterus so my guess is this procedure must be routine. You could always call your doctor's office and ask this routine. I think because they do this test often they overlook the fact that it is new for their patient's. Don't be afraid to ask questions; that's what the doctors and nurses are there for. Hope this helps with reassurance for you. Take care, Diane

Is this routine?

I had the same test done on me too. My dr said he just wants to cover all the bases so he gets no surprises. He did all kinds of lab work too. Everything was fine but that was routine for him. Hope this helps

Is this routine?

I had a biopsy in conjunction with a D&C, so fortunately I was knocked out for it. I had fibroids, and my Doc explained to me that the biopsy was just to determine that there was no cancer beforehand.

The reason is that they would use different surgical techniques or a different type of surgeon (Gyn/Onc) for your protection, if they knew cancer was present.

From what I've read here, it seems like more sisters have a biopsy than not. I wouldn't worry if I were you. It's extremely rare for a fibroid to be cancerous and doing a biopsy seems to be a pretty common practice.

Take care,
joano
