Questions about figure after hyst
I know this is going to sound petty, but with 3 days pre- op, I am starting to hear stories of pot belly, etc and am starting to worry a great deal about it.
I am a dancer (mideastern or "bellydance") and am wondering how this will effect my passion of dance. I know I will be able to dance without pain (yea!) but is it possible to maintain my figure after a hysterectomy??
I know for some, this will sound like a minimal issue, but for me it is very important. I am a very young 39 and having a TAH/BSO due to endometriosis and ovarian cysts.

Questions about figure after hyst
i am 33 and had my hyst almost 3 weeks ago. i am 5'5" and weigh about 110 lbs. i'd say i have an ok figure. some things i would like to change, like my small breast size, but beyond that all is ok. after my surg my tummy was a bit swollen, but not a pot belly. and i still have a tough time fitting in some of my tighter jeans, but that is because of my incisions being sore and some bruising. beyond that i still weigh the same and my figure looks the same. do i think i will be back to normal soon and wearing all the same clothes and looking the same? you bet. good luck to you. i'm sure you'll look great and be dancing without pain.

Questions about figure after hyst
I personally think that if you are physically fit before your surgery, then you shouldn't have any problem getting your figure back after you are healed from surgery. I am 5'6" and weigh 136lbs. I have just lost 25lbs! I don't have a perfect body yet, but I think that I will be fine after surgery. I will start back in the gym as soon as I feel like I can and after my doctor gives me the go ahead. I have also talked to my trainer and yoga instructor and they both know what I am going to have done and my trainer said he will start a new program for me when I come back.

Whew! That helps, gals
I too plan on hitting the gym asap (per Dr.) and trying to eat a little better post-op.
I have heard though, that when your organs shift to fill in the space left, that it changes your shape and I guess that is what I am afraid of. I kind of like my body shape (not that it's perfect, because it's not).
At this point, I guess I will have to just work harder, I just needed to know that the pot belly and spread they speak of is avoidable through diet & excersise!
Now on to worrying about the bowel prep! LOL

Questions about figure after hyst
Thanks! I really don't know what caused me to finally start loosing that weight. I have been battleing my weight for about 10 years. I guess after my last surgery, I knew that I wasn't having any more kids and maybe that helped me. I do have a trainer at the gym, so that helps me. He keeps me motivated. He also gave me nutrition info, but I have a hard time following that! LOL! I am also borderline diabetic, so that means that I have to kinda watch what I eat in order to keep my blood sugar in check.

Questions about figure after hyst
Prior to quitting b/c I was in so much pain, I danced quite a bit. Dancing was my one true love; my everything. I mostly did ballroom and latin, but occasionally tried other stuff. As I was in more and more pain, latin became impossible because of the abdominal bracing and movement that takes place. Eventually I had to give it all up and it broke my heart. I longed to get back into it once I had my surgery.
As far as dancing -- I'm almost 2 weeks post-op and was practicing rumba squares and merengue in my living room last night. It's sore and so I'm not going to push it, but it is worlds easier than before my surgery. My pain is all incisional. Basically, my belly feels sore, as if I had just done 1000 crunches yesterday, nothing severe.
As far as figure -- I got the swelly belly pretty bad that first week. My friends kindly said that I looked like a skinny pregnant woman. I have lost 7 pounds since the surgery and my belly is usually pretty normal in the morning now but swells a little by the end of the day (as is expected w/ any surgery). Most women seem to complain of a swollen belly for 6 weeks or so. I'm not going to worry about it b/c I'm just happy to be able to dance again at this point.
It's not a "petty" concern though (at least I hope not.. i had the same concern!). After the surgery, you will hopefully be more active and more able to exercise, so that will help with keeping in shape. Working out is even easier so far. I'm planning on going out dancing next week and I cannot wait to feel the floor again.
Good luck!!

Questions about figure after hyst
Hi Tatiyana
I had a TAH on September 7. Yes, I had what the ladies here call a swelly-belly but it's gone now and I fit back into my jeans and my figure is much better now. I've lost some weight - which I attribute to eating better, drinking lots of water and I go to the gym about five times a week, although I only use the threadmill. My doctor has asked that I only do cardio at this time.
The incision has almost disappeared and it does not look as if I had any surgery at all.
Overall I feel much better now than I did six months ago.
So if you follow your doctor's instructions you will be OK too.
