Anyone else have to do an enema for bowel prep?

I about passed out when my Doctor told me about the bowl prep. I have to take a stool softner the day before, and a couple hours before surgery I have to do a fleets enema. Any one else have to do the enema?

Re: Anyone else have to do an enema for bowel prep?

I had to do one the night before mine. Actually, if you follow the directions on the box precisely plus use a little KY to lubricate the bottle tip, it's very easy - much easier than the oral preps!

Yes, I have to also. I felt sick to my stomach when I got the pre-op instructions and saw those words, Fleet Enema. I can't even imagine doing it! I also have to have soft foods only 48 hrs before, and liquid diet 24 hrs before. There will be nothing left in me! We'll get through this!

I have to do the enema prep tonight before I go to bed but I wasn't told to eat light or anything like that, but I will anyway. I was also given some antibacterial body wash to shower with tonight and in the morning before I go to the castle.

I specifically asked about an enema and was told it was not necessary! I really like my doc!

I have to drink a bottle of mag citrate and do 2 Fleets... UGH. I'm so ready for this day to be over! I miss food sooooo much right now.

Re: Anyone else have to do an enema for bowel prep?

I'm thankful I don't have to drink the citrate. My doctor instructed me to do the fleets enema a couple of hours before my procedure, but I've not heard from the castle as to my surgery time.

I did the citrate and one fleets. Surfer babe is right - not really a big deal, you will be really empty and a little KY or vaseline and you wont have any issues.

Good luck!

The only thing I had to do was drink a packet of pico salax the afternoon before my surgery

Re: Anyone else have to do an enema for bowel prep?

I have to do the oral bowel prep... I am told it is the same prep you do for a colonoscopy... I have talked to a couple that say it was brutal and talked to others that say they went to the bathroom 3 times and that was it. I can not eat anything but liquids starting the day before my surgery....
