Question about aTVH

My doctor said I might be a candidate for a TVH. He will know once I am in surgery, I am prepared to have to have a TAH. My question is how can they see everything to get it out? I know they slice you a little down there, but how do they see in your belly to know if other things need to be taken out. Ex: He is removing my right ovary due to years (20) of cysts, how does he know if my left ovary is not covered also?

Re: Question about aTVH

Hi!
It's a good question. There are some very graphic answers out there, and I am far too chicken to read them/watch the vid. I just trusted my ob. I had a TVH and he said both ovaries looked healthy and I'm going with it. *FULL BODY SHIVER* I get icked out when I try to imagine how in the world they do it, what all was in me etc. It's amazing, absolutely amazing that they are able to, isn't it?

Re: Question about aTVH

You know, wackycamper, I've wondered the same thing. I assume my used a scope to look around inside, but I suppose it's possible that he was able to pull my ovaries closer to the vaginal entrance to look at them, too. He looked at my ovaries enough to see that they looked good, so he left them in.

Our video section (you can find the link below the tabs at the top right of the screen) has a video of a vaginal hysterectomy. Perhaps that would give you some information. (Or, if you prefer not to watch it, maybe you have a friend who could watch it for you and report back.)

I hope your surgery goes smoothly!
