stairs and post-op?

What has been everyone's experience regarding climbing stairs 2 weeks after TAH/BSO surgery? It may become necessary for me to do this.

I had a TAH/BSO on 4/27. Today makes three weeks. I live in a bi-level house so whenever I want to leave I must go down the steps. I just go slowly and try to limit the number of times I need to go up and down.

I found that stairs were not as much trouble as rolling over in bed by myself was (11 days post op I was finally able to roll myself over unassisted). By necessity I had to climb stairs as soon as I came home after my TAH. I found it really helpful to try to isolate my legs as the active part of the motion, and not try to use my abs (yeah, right, like my abs would cooperate at that point!!) and use ther railing. If worst comes to worst, you can climb stairs backwards on your bottom (ironically, that was harder for me than just the normal way). What was also helpful was to just be sure every motion was gentle. That said, try to do as little stair climbing as possible - - in fact, do as little as possible -- period. Listen to your body, and remember that pain is information. Be blessed...very blessed!
