How long in bed?

I will be in hospital 4 -5 days. How long will I be in bed at home? I am afraid people will think I am taking it TOO easy.

Re: How long in bed?

Everyone is different, but what I will say is you'll definitely need rest and alot of it!! Don't worry about what people are thinking you've just had a huge and major surgery!! Just take it easy for the first while, you'll thank yourself later

Re: How long in bed?

You won't be in the bed the entire time. Rest is very important and taking it easy but you will be encouraged and able to walk around. Short slow walks around the house. Remember to take care of yourself and don't worry that anyone will think you're taking it too easy. You'll be recovering for as long as you need to. You're the priority!

Re: How long in bed?

You are SUPPOSED to take it TOO easy!!! This is a major surgery! I found that when I needed to get up to use the restroom, I would refresh my snack and drink while I was up and take a short walk around the house, then back to bed until I needed to get up again. This for a good 2 weeks.

You are supposed to take it easy. Do not worry about what other people think. You do what is right for you.

Re: How long in bed?

As everyone said please take it easy and give your body a chance to recover. You will note in the mornings after a good night sleep you will feel much better.

I also stayed in hospital for 5 days, and on my return preparing lunch boxes in the morning was a big task. After everyone was gone it was time to rest again or watch a movie

So let your friends and family pamper you and learn to say yes to all offers to help. Take care

Re: How long in bed?

Everybody is giving good advise. Listen to your body, not to what other people think, if you need to rest. Each of us will heal at a different rate. There were times the first week a trip to the bthroom was all I did. Then other times a short walk after the stop at the bathroom was OK.

Re: How long in bed?

I was in the hospital for 4 days, and it was so nice to do nothing for a change. When I got home, I rested in bed for maybe 1 or 2 days...then couldn't stand it anymore. LOL However, I do rest when I feel the need to.....I still "sit" alot and will go lie down if I'm feeling tired or not feeling well. My dear MIL told me I should be in bed for at least 3 weeks like she was. Not sure that I could stand it that long, but I do agree that we need to take it very easy for at least a month, and REST, REST, REST as often as you need to!

Good luck!

Re: How long in bed?

Early on in my recovery I felt really good and consequently I did too much!!! Ouch!!!! Right after doing too much, I was pretty much on "recliner rest" for the next week.

So, for me at least, my body sort of forced me to rest. The other option was to suffer.

Now, 4 weeks post-op, I am very aware and certain to get my rest. I live alone, and therefore do most everything for myself, but when I have visitors I put them to work!!!

What's the hystersisters mantra? Oh, yes. "You only have 1 chance to heal properly."
