Keeping Ovaries yes or no.

I AM DUE TO HAVE FAH ON TUESDAY THIS WEEK . I SUFFER FROM VERY BAD PMS AND MY DR SAID I WOULD STILL SUFFER FROM THIS IF I KEEP MY OVARIES. BUT HE ADVISED ME TO KEEP THEM AS I AM ONLY 41. I DONT THINK I CAN FACE THE PROSPECT OF ANOTHER TEN YEARS PLUS OF PMS.AND I FEEL IT WOULD BE BEST FOR ME TO HAVE MY OVARIES REMOVED. WHAT WOULD I BE RISKING IF I HAVE THEM REMOVED.

Keeping Ovaries yes or no.

Karen,

There has been alot of conversation on keeping ovaries or not. You can click on Search at the top right and do a search on that topic and I am sure you will find lots of information.

If you have the ovaries removed, you would need to go on some sort of HRT. You can visit the Hormone Jungle message boards to find out more information on HRT.

I know it is a tough decision, my doctor also left it up to me. But I in turn left it up to him, I told him that once he got in there that if they weren't 100% healthy then to get them out of there. When he got in there and could see them, one had multiple cysts and one was covered in endo so he took them out.

I wish you the best of luck.

Keeping Ovaries yes or no.

Hi Karen,

My Doc left it up to me too. At 41 I have been suffering through some pretty ugly premenopausal stuff for the last 1 1/2 yrs. Hot flashes, severe night sweats, period one month then not having one for 60 days and huge hormonal mood swings.

I knew I would be messing around with the hormone jungle after my hyst if I kept them so what the heck! I decided to have both ovaries removed. It did end up my left one had to go anyway : )

I've been on 2mg of Etrace for just over 2 weeks and feel fantastic.

It is a tough decision--I'm sure you'll go with whats right for you.

Hugs

to keep or not to keep?

My answer is simple. I have already lost my left one to a 5lb endomertioma . . . I will have the dr yank the right one too.
In 50% of hyst cases, the ovaries cease to function within weeks to a couple of years (this is based on the plethora of reading I have done.) HRT should help the situation if you do decide to have the dr take yours.
Just make the decision that seems right for you. I know it's easier said than done, but I'm sure you'll make the right choice.
