'Twas the Night Before Hyster....

:candy:THE NIGHT BEFORE SURGERY

‘Twas the night before surgery approaching the castle
The nurse took my pre-op vitals without too much hassle
My TED stockings were snug on my two legs with care
In hopes that no blood clots could ever form there

I dreamed of how great it would be to be in my own bed
While visions of catheters kicked ‘round my head
The doc in his scrubs and I in my backless frock
Had just settled down after a heated incision talk

When all of sudden I guess I was out
I woke up as someone was wheeling me about
My eyes sprang open and twitched side to side
I clutched for my crown with such Princess Pride!

When what, through my groggy and foggy brain see
But a nice PCA with a pain button, just for me!
And my lively young Doctor, so smart and so cute
He asked right away if I’d yet to ‘toot’!

More staples than legal, my tummy had caught
My Doctor then bellowed “Now Listen, my tot!”
“No lifting, no bending, no dancing, no fixin’
No comet for cleaning, no boudoir mixin’

From now ‘til our 6 week visit, I say,
Just pamper the princess, now have a good day!”

THREE WEEKS AFTER SURGERY

‘Twas 3 weeks after surgery, long gone from the castle
This resting is beginning to be a big hassle
I vacuumed the living room with ease and with care
In fear that the Pillow Police soon would be there

The beds were all made, all the laundry was done
If I have to admit it, doing that was no fun!
With me in my leather coat, having a ball
I’d just gotten back from a big sale at the Mall!

When all of a sudden I felt something weird
My tummy was hurting! my eyes, now they teared!
Away to the medicine cabinet, like a flash I flew
Fell into the table, tripped over my shoe!

I should be all healed, I should be all better!
I’m a princess, I followed doc’s orders to the letter!
Then I remembered that Hyster Sisters call,
“You only have one chance to heal –that’s all!”

I looked at my post op instructions once more
And realized why I was now feeling so sore!
“No lifting, no bending, no dancing, no fixin’
No Comet for cleaning, no boudoir mixin’ “

I guess I forgot since I was feeling so great
Now it’s back to the couch to recuperate
Instead of causing my healing to be hampered
I’ll put my crown back on and rest and be pampered.

As I heard my Doc say as he hung up the phone
“Your Hyster Sisters are with you, you’re never alone!”

How approriately funny. I saved your little poem to send on to my friends.

There is some truth to that. I was out of bed, after two weeks because my back was starting to hurt and I was dying of boredom. So what did I do? I cooked dinner, did laundry with the help of DH. Then we decorated the house which included hanging banners, wreaths, and setting up and decorating 2 trees.
After that (this was over a 2 day period) I went with DH to Canadian Tire, to get some outside lights etc. DH drove and pushed the cart at the store. We were gone for 1 hour. Today I am paying the price.

I had a TAH BSO Nov.14th. Now my back is all better, but my swelly belly hurts to the point where I did not have proper sleep last night. My pain meds are all finished after the first week and I was using Extra Strength Tylinol the second week and managed fine. This is now a set back. Our dr. up here don't like to prescribe pain meds too much. Oh well I guess I learned my lesson.

Oh my that 3 week post is me!!!
I don't have a crown around here.
Just my sofa and blanket.

Three weeks after surgery is me to a tee! What a reminder. Thanks for the gentle prodding to return to the couch occasionally during this busy holiday season. Its too easy to forget till its too late!
