My anniversary was 3 weeks Friday and I have had more discomfort this weekend than in the past 2 weeks. I wondered today of I may be ovulating? That would explain the cramping I guess. I hope that's what it is and I haven't strained anything.
Let me ask you this...do any of you have any rectal discomfort when sitting down? I also have a little pain when passing gas. Thought it may still be swelling but wondering if it was just me.

As I already mentioned, I could not get out of the hospital soon enough...now I'm home recovery in a caring environment. I'm up walking, my bowels are moving, I'm eating regulary and drinking 'lots of water, etc... I will be completing any and all surveys that I receive from the hospital. (Thanks for letting me vent!) I will also be writing a letter.
I too not only wrote a letter about my treatment and lack of care but started a blog thread on the local news paper website here in my town, WOW so many others with stories to curl yourhair came up too, pages after pages, I see I was not alone, I sent the site about the hospital to the customer service managers email I found on line, I am also going to them in person once I feel better.. dont stop!! YOU may help even ONE person, you have done more then if you didnt do one thing!! CHEERS!!!

My MD had wanted to do a LAVH BSO but due to the endo he had to perform the TAH BSO. I couldn't pass gas and had trouble urinating which kept me in a bit longer than I was hoping for. I made the huge mistake of eating a small portion of a salad and suffered the consequences for a better part of the 11th. Of course, most all the food on the menu was a gas producer and I did not want another bowl of soup. In hindsight, the soup would have been better.
Currently, I am having trouble starting and maintaining a stream of urine. My feet and ankles are swollen and am having some abd pain. However, all the aches and pains I had felt prior to surgery, no longer exist. The new pains are definitly surgical in origin. Oh, and the aftereffects of the anesthesia...yuck. I have had a dry mouth since I woke up from the anesthesia on the 10th. Nothing I have drank has helped. Its almost as if you can "taste" it. Brushing your teeth doesn't help one ioda either. My tongue is actually sore ( and I made another boo boo of eating ketchup on my salmon cake tonight) I may as well have drank battery acid.
Anything I eat burns my tongue and my tastebuds must have went on vacation. I am chalking all that up to the anesthesia, unless its an allergic reaction to the Unisyn they gave me IV to prevent infection.I got to itching so bad after 2 bags of Unisyn that they held the third bag to rule out allergy..morphene vs Unisyn. The itching stopped so must have been the antibiotic.
My incision site (bikini cut) is completely numb for about an inch to an inch and a half around the site itself. I can't sleep for more than a couple of hours at a time. I jerk myself awake, which is no fun at all with an abd incision. I had read on HysterSisters somewhere about post surgical insomnia, so it doesn't surprise me. However, if I am still plagued with sleeplessness on Monday when I go back to MD to get staples removed I will see if he can write me a script for a mild sedative. Can't heal if you can't get your rest.
God Bless,
My incision site in my bikini area too is so numb all around that site. I am freaked out about it so happy to see Im not alone.. I also have a hard time keep a stream of urine, even today 10 days post op. Still working on different ways to position my body and legs to keep a stream of urine to empty my bladder, do you find this happens to you too? please reply... thanks!!

Wow 4 weeks today. Doesn't it seem like we were all dreading the days and hours before the surgery. And now it is finally over. Ele. and Philli. my light duty will probably be 20 lbs since that is what the Dr. says is all i can lift right now. I really don't have any problems with lifting that either. But working in the cafeteria for 15 years now you just know how much the cases of food weighs. And how much it weighs after it is cooked on the trays. That would be so nice if the Dr. says light duty for even longer than the end of Sept. So alot of the younger ladies can do more of the work. Fine with me i'll run register. ha ha. That meletonin i bought to sleep really does help. I slept 5 1/2 hours last night. Everyone have a nice day.

Hi Presouz, sounds as if you had a rough time. I had TAH on 10th as well but kept both ovaries and cervix. I still have a 6 inch area above my incision that is swollen and numb but its natural and have been told not to worry most people have them of varying degrees and they eventually will go.

I was kept in until 14th because of a reaction to anesthesia nausea and breathing difficulties and I still have a dry mouth and cracked lips. I still use the ice chips all the time and find them really helpful. However, mine sounds nothing like as bad as yours.

Take care of yourself and let us know how you are.

My favorite part of my stay in the castle was the ice chips. Nothing else seemed to be in order...new room and nurses couldn't even figure out how to turn off the lights, so I was in glaring lights the entire night of my stay. My nurses were sweeties, however, so I was blessed for those two angels compared to some of you. My elbows are still showing bumps and bruises and today is four weeks anniversary of my surgery. OWIE.

And I remembered to take my bone med this morning. My brain is still altered from the anesthesia. I think I am going to scare people because I do not think I am the same lady I was mentally prior to surgery. Something is definitely altered in my personality, outlook, activities, interests, etc. It is so odd. I 'know' it but can't 'fix' it.

Today I am going to go to my college and putter around for a couple of hours. I was so busy staying away when I couldn't teach this summer and prepping for surgery knowledge-wise and getting stocked up-wise and exercising...that now that I am home and four weeks post op, I need to get in gear or I will be totally lost on the 22nd when we all report back to duty.

Good luck to me today. No walking...........yet. I'm out of here in one half hour! Healthy healing to all of you today, this soupy humid Twin Cities Monday up here in MN~!

Hey all!
4 weeks today! Can't wait for the time of feeling "normal" again.

I (barely) survived my first week at work and now I'm back for week 2. This weekend I went and bought an abdominal binder. It definetly helped out over the weekend. I'm hoping it helps at work. At least now I'm not walking holding my stomach. I wondered last week how many people at work would think I was pregnant (and as my bf is the director of production here, would have been a funny rumor to start) LOL

I've been here half an hour and haven't touched much on my desk so I better get back to work.

When I read all your messages I realize that we're all different and yet we're all the same
Yesterday was my best day yet. I'm driving now, and that makes a huge difference because I can take my walks in different locations, including trails in the woods. For the first time since my July 13 procedure, I went to sleep with NO pain killers. However, I'm back on the tylenol this morning. For those of you who are feeling discouraged: I seemed to "hit the wall" last week and felt I was making no progress at all, but now I'm feeling really good. For me at least, this has not been a smooth and even path to recovery, but rather a bumpy road of good and bad days. I am SO glad I found you all. My doctor -- while very competent in the OR -- gave me very little info about recovery except to say "Go at your own pace and don't overdo". Have a great day, everyone.

5 weeks and counting

Hi all, It's been 5 weeks today and I am so grateful for the positive outcomes from my surgery. My thoughts are with you all as you struggle to get your life's back in order. Had to call the doctor today. Still struggling with the hormone patches (its been 2 now). They break down my skin. Looks like they will be putting me on the oral ones. I am 53 years old and was premenopausal. Has anyone heard about NOT being put on hormones post TAH? With some family risk factors and no periods since last Oct. I was suprised. I have an apt. next thursday and will ask my doctor but just wanted a poll of the "sisters". Continued healing to each of you.
