How much movement is good vs overdoing it? I had a partial abdominal hysterectomy ( kept ovaries/cervix) on Sept 15 with a large incision vertical incision. I have tried to move every day/ every few hours. Today I went for a15 min/ half km walk beside usual movement around the house.

My incision feels heavy and sore now. is this a sign of over activity? The family has chased me away from doing anything at all so I've done well in that regard. This sitting around is hard to do!

I’m not a doctor, but to me It sounds as if you overdid activity a bit. It’s hard to gauge in the beginning what is too much. The key is to try to stop your activity before fatigue sets in.

See if a cold compress helps with the swelling and soreness.

I’d rest tonight and see how you feel tomorrow.

I’ll post an article tonight on activity levels.

Hugs and feel better.

I’m writing again. I had my surgery on 9/15 (kept ovaries, took everything else out). Fortunately, I have had a BM (yay!) here’s my problem:
I was taking ibuprofen and non of the narcotics I was prescribed for pain and managing well (with lots of heat and ice and walking). Yesterday, I had to go to the ER with an allergic reaction to aspirin so no longer will be able to take ibuprofen. My pain is much worse now and Tylenol in combination with heat/ice/walking is not helping. Wondering if anyone has any pain tips?? I don’t want to have to rely on narcotics for a variety of reasons, one of them being getting backed up and a family history of addiction.
So sorry to hear about this setback! Any luck managing your pain since this post? Have you tried without heat, and just doing ice, Tylenol and walking? Hang in there. This is not easy, for sure.

It's so hard to guage our limits, I think! I am pretty sure I overdid it on days 2 & 3 after surgery this week. Because I was told to be as active as I could be. But after talking to a nurse, and following her recommendations, I laid low yesterday and today and feel a whole lot better, and my spotting has stopped for now. Instead if doing five 10 minute walks outside, I've been doing three. I'll step it up to 4 tomorrow, then 5 when I'm comfortable. I completely agree. Sitting around is hard to do! Hopefully it'll get easier to be up and around for all of us soon. Keep us posted!

Thank you for your kind words!

But it’s your contribution, and that of all those on this thread, who are really helping!

Hugs
