counting down...........

I am counting down the days till my surgery and getting very nervous now. I know its going to be a completely different recovery from my 2 c-sections although I am hoping it won't be too bad. I find myself being extremely emotional and crying for no reason which drives my dh completely crazy.
I am worried about my kids helping out, they are terrible sometimes and fight a lot between themselves. I am afraid they are not going to help like they say they will and I don't need the stress when I come home.
I have my pre-op apt and testing Monday and am scheduled for surgery at 730 am Tuesday and I am glad itsgoing to be over soon but today I started my period and I am not happy about that, extreme cramping, etc. I will be so glad to not worry about it anymore. I am about 2 weeks late and had hoped to escape!
I know this all is probably normal for all of us but its driving me crazy. Thanks for letting me vent and good luck to all who are scheduled for the next few days......We can all take care of ourselves together.......................Linda

Linda

Reading your thread sounded like me pre op. I am normally a very strong person, but in the lead up to surgery I found myself crying at almost everything. It didn't have to be sad even, the tears just flowed. I think we must all get hormonal and just thinking about the operation overwhelms us.

I got my last period the day before I went to hospital. I had already discussed this with dr as I had a feeling it would happen. He just said not to worry, as it happens to a lot of women going in for the op.

Well just think, this is the last time you will have that problem. You will be able to walk straight past that section of the supermarket. I still find it hard to walk past it. It was just a natural arm movement to put those packets in my trolley.

I haven't had a c section, so I can't comment or compare. All I do know is that I took the advice from everyone and took it super easy, walked heaps, drank heaps and rested heaps. Now at 6 weeks post op I am doing great. No post op problems whatsoever. I am still taking it easy and not doing any lifting or bending. Your recovery time is for YOU.

I think you will get a pleasant surprise with your family as well. I felt the same and wondered how much help I would get. They have been unreal.

Linda, best wishes and kind regards for your upcoming surgery.

The period you're going through right now was also the toughest for me emotionally. It's very normal and you are not alone.

I've had 2 c-sections and had a lavh. You didn't say what kind you're having, but my recovery painwise has been much easier than with the sections. It's just taking longer to feel back to normal. Not really sure what "normal" really is but what I mean by this is I don't have as much energy as quickly as I did after the sections and still have occasional twinges. But NOTHING like the horrible cramping like I had with periods. Other ladies who've had c-sections and had abdominal hysts have had different opinions on which was worse. I've heard more say the C-section was worse. But think about it, with a section you have the uterus contracting while it has an incision in it. However, a hyst takes longer than a section, so the tissues are stretched open longer. Guess it's just a difference in everyone's perception of pain, how well they really remember what the section was like, and how each person heals. We are all so different.

How old are your kids? I have an 11 y/o ds & 14 y/o dd and they can fight like cats and dogs. *punch* But they were very understanding for at least a couple of weeks after my surgery and helped out without trying too hard to get out of it. Hopefully, yours will do the same.

Sorry your period decided to come one last time. Just remind yourself this is the last time you'll ever have the visit from Aunt Flo. Yippee!!!

Hope all goes well for you. Come hang out in chat in the meantime.

Me too...1/29 at 7:30

Linda,

Me too. We share a surgery date & time as well as a state of mind. I'm fine one minute and practically hyperventilating the next. My poor DH and DD are probably at their wits end listening to me obsess about my surgery. Today was my last day at work -very emotional, but I sure did appreciate the hugs and words of encouragement from my staff. I'm so glad to have this site for all of the excellent suggestions and support....I'd really be freaking without it!!

I think we're pretty "normal" with only a few days to go. Hang in there and keep in touch. We'll be soon!

Take Care......Janet
