Ovarian Tumor grown
I just got the call that I am scheduled for LAVH on Jan 19th. The ovarian tumor grew from 5cm to 7cm in 4 weeks. Dr said it was showing signs of malignancy. I went for blood work this morning and got the call about the surgery. Among other things, there is a big nasty fibriod inside my uterus. He said that if all goes well and it is not cancer I will get to keep my other ovary. I am nervous but I really need this pain to end. He is planning on laparoscopic if all goes as planned.
Now for the questions...
I am a police officer. In reality, how long before I will be able to go back to work? How long before most of you felt 100%? I will lose my uterus and one ovary unless I test postive for cancer. Then I would lose both.

Re: Ovarian Tumor grown
copchick187,
Glad you found the site , sorry you need surgery.
It can be very difficult to guess how each individual will react to the surgery. First if your doc is able to complete the laparoscopic surgery as planned, your recovery and ability to return to work will be easier. You could return to work in as little as three weeks. Lots of women don't feel up to it that soon so it would be a good idea to plan on four to six weeks. Everyone is different and the type of work you need to do. Sitting at a desk at three weeks is one thing, wrestling with perps will need more than three weeks recovery. If you need to have an open incision, your recovery will be longer. Plan for six weeks or more. As far as feeling 100%, that takes longer. It was several months before I got all my energy and stamina back.
If you have both ovaries removed there may be some menopause symptoms that need to be addressed.
I wish you the best, feel free to ask questions. Thanks for your service.

Re: Ovarian Tumor grown
don't count on if all goes as planned...I was supposed to have a LAVH and it turned into a TAH only because he nicked an artery and had to go in to fix it....which only adds a little more time to the healing but I'm just saying things do happen.I was told not to even drive until three weeks and the only exercise was walking at 4 weeks.....so I guess it depends on what you'll be doing....I say plan for the longest time 6 to 7 weeks, and then if you feel like you can go back a little sooner do it.I'm four weeks out and I am a small girl and I can't even button any of my pants yet....for one thing I'm swollen and then the other thing is I don't want to irritate my incision ,it not painful though. So keep in mind you may not be able to get into your uniform,Hope this helps.
