Scheduled for a total abdominal on 9 Aug
Hello gals. I'm so glad so see some seriously upbeat/use of humour and 'kick butt' attitude on here. I joined and then exited fast as the stories and the sheer level of detail about what to do/not do, what to expect/not expect, be happy or dread it etc - these were freaking me out more than the surgery! I get it I really do but for those of us who haven't gone there yet (I'm scheduled in for a total abdominal on 9 Aug) - sometimes too much information isn't a good thing! I'm not exactly looking forward to it but I'll deal with it. 2 months out of my life to recover and avoid ovarian cancer is nothing. Early menopause - OK I'll be more of a looney afterwards than I am today and everyone's been forewarned. My husband will be relieved if my sex drives wanes a bit (he gets a break) and I've always been a moody ***** around my periods. Soooo provided the surgeon doesn't decide to drill for oil while she's in there and accidentally snag something she shouldn't then 'Bring it on' so I can move on White jeans? Gym? Give me a 2 months and I'll be back with a vengeance. See you on the other side

Re: Let's look on the bright side and have a laugh....
jvsydney,
Hey there fellow Aussie!!!! Welcome to the Hystersisters!!!! I had my Hysterectomy on the 12th March this year and haven't looked back. Like you, I saw my Hysterectomy not as a loss, but as a 'relief' and a 'release' from the constant worry and stress of whether today was going to be the day, it was 'going to turn' and it would be too late. So, I had my uterus, both tubes, both ovaries and cervix removed laproscopically ... figured while they were in there, I might as well get my money's worth! So here I am 14 weeks post-op and just absolutely gorgeous! which is part and parcel of your surgery's outcome and you get an automatic upgrade to 'Princess' as well,...bargain!!!!
Of course, as with every surgery, especially this one, it's an emotional and physical rollercoaster and more often the not, a bumpy ride but hey, just not having to worry about what's going on in there and having your peace of mind makes it all worth while.....and that goes for the looks on your teenage daughter's faces when they no longer have your supplies as their 'emergency back-up'.....The looks of horror on their faces when it dawns on them that there are no pads in the house and it's the middle of the night, or they are getting dressed to go out......priceless.... Muah, ha, ha.
I know where your coming from with the too much information bit, but try not to worry. There are a lot of experiences to be had and shared on this site, that's what makes it great, and scary at the same time. But we are all different and just because some of the sisters have some setbacks, that is not the case for everybody. I have had a wonderful recovery and sometimes I've had to remind myself that I had surgery. Sure I've had bad days but the good days have outnumbered the bad and I am on my way to a happier, healthier, sexier, ME...as will you!
So hang in there princess-in-waiting and best of luck! We'll be waiting for you on the other side with Tiara in hand, 'cause every princess needs one! Let us know how you go and hugs galore, xoxo. (sounds like a burlesque name, doesn't it? lol)

Re: Scheduled for a total abdominal on 9 Aug
Well that was a super nice and unexpected surprise on a Sunday morning here in Aus. A fellow Aus! Nice to e-meet you and thanks for the new burlesque name - I will be using it as my new sign off at work Well it's far cleaner then previous hahaha. Thanks for sharing too - I'm in that optimistic phase where its all preparation right now: health and fitness and trying to do everything to have a safe and speedy recovery - I'll make a terrible princess! So glad to hear your recovery was great. I'm looking forward to removing the fear. Are we on trend? I mean Angelina Jolie is on our band wagon not the other way around! Have an amazing sunday and wishing you all great things" health and happiness. Much love "hugs galore"

Re: Scheduled for a total abdominal on 9 Aug
Hello once again fellow Aus!
Sorry didn't get to your post earlier, just turned laptop on... you know how it is,.. cold, rainy Sunday, sitting around, drinking tea and contemplating the pros and cons of being named 'North West'...the makings of an identity crisis, right off the bat, either that, or having an aversion to Geography.
Glad to have been of service with the burlesque name. Just try and not be too naughty when using it.....don't want to be the next news story on 'Today Tonight' yelling out, "It wasn't me!" while trying to outrun the microphone that's being shoved in my face!... and besides that, I don't think, a tessellated face is a good look for me!
As far as preparation princess (to be), you are off to a good start already. You are very positive and take things on with a smile and a lot of humour. Frame of mind goes a long way towards helping with your recovery. So keep on keeping on and you'll do great! It's a good idea to be as fit as you can pre-op but the thing that will be most helpful to you post-op is of course listen to your doctor's post-op instructions, but more importantly, listen to your body and take things s-l-o-w. That's a must. Be patient and allow yourself and your body, the time to heal and heal properly the first time without any setbacks. It may take a little longer, but it will be better for you in the long run and for your future health and well being. You certainly don't want to have to go back for a 'repair'....of course it helps to be a lazy person (like me)...and milk it for all it's worth. Mind you, that's probably why I had such an uneventful recovery! I think you'll make a great princess! All you have to do is learn to delegate from your comfy spot when you get home from hospital and wear that Tiara with pride. Just remember, that princesses deserve to be pampered and that's what you need to do, rest, rest, rest!!!
Not only are we on trend girl, we're trail blazers!!!!! and like Angelina Jolie, I (but without the gorgeous voluptuous body and pouty lips) am so relieved that there has been this weight lifted off my shoulders, and you will feel the same!
Thanks for your well wishes, sweets. I wish you all the best for your surgery and recovery as well. I will try and remember your Hyster. date and look in on you, but because I have the memory span of a Goldfish (3 seconds hence using your quoted post in my reply to you), feel free to private message me if I haven't cottoned on to your having had your Hysterectomy.
I will be spending the rest of this lazy Sunday, being just that and just 'visit' some of the sisters in both pre-op and post-op and see if I can't 'cause some mischief.
Take care and Hugs galore, xoxo.

Re: Scheduled for a total abdominal on 9 Aug
Eh, I dunno. Some people want hugs when they're freaking out. Me, I want information! Collecting information about the things I'm freaking out about is how I deal with them. In my case, the things I was freaking out about included a completely unexpected endometrial cancer diagnosis, the surgery itself and even the hospital stay. I hadn't stayed overnight in a hospital since I was an infant!
So how'd it all turn out? The surgery went smoothly, I lucked into a semi-private room, the hospital staff was great and the recovery period has turned out to be the most relaxing vacation I've had in a long time. I sat outdoors in the sun reading as often as the weather allowed, went for longer and longer walks and cheerfully ignored the housework.
Alas, now at 24 days past my TAH/BSO, I have to face the fact that this idyll is coming to an end. Really, if I can go out and spend two hours walking rooty, rocky wooded trails, there's no reason I can't walk the mile and a half into work. Or at least sweep a floor or two.
I'm seeing my gyn/onc the day after tomorrow to discuss the path reports and next steps - I'm expecting he'll recommend a bit of radiation - and at that time I'll ask for clearance to return to work. But I'm also asking for clearance to go swimming, since my sister's coming up to visit next weekend! *And* I want to know how soon I can use my rowing-type exercise machine again. And haul 30-40 lb boxes out of the archives area at work instead of having to spend (waste) time getting someone else to help me. And... *grin*
