Surgery Options SAH versus LSH

Hi All,

Well, I was scheduled for an LSH on Thursday but my surgeon had said that the size of my uterus was borderline so it may turn into an SAH. I was having just my uterus removed, keeping my ovaries and cervix. Reason for my surgery is that my fibroid has grown so large it is now affecting my ability to empty my bladder. If I waited too long to pee, I would not be able to and would be in a lot of pain trying all kinds of way to get the pee out. The fibroid keeps getting larger so I was looking forward to my surgery on Thursday. Well, my surgeon just called and the other surgeon that is needed for the LSH has to have emergency surgery himself and will be out for 3 weeks. So my option now is to either have the SAH on Thursday or wait until November for the LSH and at that point the fibroid may have grown so the LSH would not even be a possibility..plus November will start getting into the holidays. I am really trying to make the best decision here so I welcome any input. I'm leaning towards having the SAH but not looking forward to 2 days in the hospital and a longer recovery period. Ugh!

Re: Surgery Options SAH versus LSH

I don't know if this helps but I had an SAH and had a great recovery. In the end, we all have similar things done inside such as having an organ removed and we all need to recover from that. Just because one is having a less invasive surgery, it doesn't guarantee a better recovery. You need to make a list of the pros and cons of the two surgeries and use that to help you make a decision.

Good point Danni..thanks for the advice. I'm making my list and it's definitely leaning towards the SAH. Especially since I have already planned to be out of work for this time and arrange my disability, etc.
