TAH: Upcoming hysterectomy 1/20 and Scared Pre Op visit today

Went to the doctor today for pre op asked a lot of questions and they have to cut me upwards have to go to the hospital today as well for blood work a little come concerned surgery date 01/20/2016 total abdominal hysterectomy with possible bilateral salpingo-dophorectomy don't know until surgery if I keep my cervix or not to be determined.

Many of us get very nervous after our pre op appointment as the reality of surgery sets in. Tell the doctor about your anxiety - it is not uncommon. I had hoped for less invasive surgery too, but had to have a radical hysterectomy - it took a while to sink in. I got 3 different medical opinions. I hope you got other opinions as well. Make certain you are sure about your precise surgery as there is no turning back.

Hi, I am also set for surgery on 1-20-16. I am so very scared. I know I need this,but the unknown is frightening. I go in on Monday for pre op testing. My prayers are with you.

Being scared is so normal. I didn't know I was until I went for my pre op. My BP was so high they made me lie down and rest for a half hour. When they retook it, each figure was 30 point lower. So try and keep yourselves busy and before you know it you will be on the road to recovery. Will be looking forward to seeing you both on the other side.

In my opinion, the very worst thing is worrying about the surgery! Once it's over, you just have to concentrate on getting better.

I think we all worry about being in pain, but you will be kept very comfortable after your surgery.

I am already waking up in a panic! I am worried about everything! I feel the more I read some stories, the more I get scared! My nature is being a worry wort. Sigh....

I am having surgery on the 20th as well - robotic LVAH, hopefully keeping the ovaries - and I'm starting to get a little nervous too. It's normal. This is major surgery. My biggest fear is not surgery but recovery because everyone's experience seems so different. Good luck and try not to stress yourself out.
