New to site - scheduled hys 12/18

I am so glad that I found this site. Wow! You all have helped me a great deal. My pre-op is monday the 15th with surgery the 18th. I have had a cycle since 9/11 and a D&C on Oct 14th. I finally stopped bleeding yesterday for the first time. But, the cramps and back pain are terrible. I just know I will start again any day. What can I expect at my pre-op?

pre-op

What exactly is a pre-op?

My surgery is scheduled for the 26th. On the 19th I have to go in for blood work but that's it. I was told to be at admissions on the 26th 2 hours before my surgery (which is at 3:30pm). Other than that I don't have to do anything else.

Hi-

At my pre-op I had kind of a general physical. The nurse went over my past history-previous surgeries, allergies, medications. She asked about what kinds of anesthesia I have had in the past and how I reacted to them. Also, an anesthesiologist came in and asked and repeated some of the questions. They take your weight so they know how much anesthesia to use. They take blood tests-checking on your likely blood clotting ability and they also check your blood type. Then they ask you if you have any questions. They give you pre-surgical instructions and tell you where to go on the day of your surgery.

Hi

It depends on the DR. In a lot of instances when you see your DR and decide to schedule surgery will be the last time you see the DR til the OR, usually though, you have a pre admission apt at the hospital. That is also referred to here as the pre op apt. At the hospital you'll fill out admission forms, have a medical interview, probably have blood drawn, sometimes depending on age you may have an EKG or chest xray, and maybe talk to the anesthesiologist.

I saw my DR 6 weeks before my surgery, she answered all my questions and told me to call her if I had any questions, she called me the night before, then I saw her just before we went into the OR.

Best wishes!

thank you

Thanks for the explanation about the pre-op appointment, or whatever it was called.

A little over a year ago I had a balloon ablation done and went thru that procedure. But nothing was mentioned about it this time. I do have to go in for my blood work on the 19th but that's done at the doctor's office. I imagine a clotting test will be done there. That was an interesting one last year. Took me almost 5 minutes for my blood to clot. I thought that was a long time but the nurse said it wasn't.

Last year I talked to the anaestheologist (sp) the day of my surgery. He asked me a bunch of questions and that was it. Maybe the same thing will happen this time. My hysterectomy is suppose to take no longer than an hour, which is what the balloon ablation took.

My surgery has been approved by my insurance so I guess I have nothing to fill out, at least not before I get to the hospital.

I'm just hoping this will be as easy as my doctor is making it out to be.

Brace
The preop is pretty straight forward as the above posts explained.
I really want to wish you the best of luck on your surgery. We are scheduled for the same day. Know I will be thinking of you as I go off to the castle with you.

Let us know how it all goes..

See you on the other side!
