Nausea and Vomiting after surgery???!!!

Everything makes me nauseous and nausea meds make it worse instead of better. Except for the scopolamine patches. They take about 6 hours to actually work for me....but once they start to work they are wonderful. If I ever have to have surgery again I will ask for one before surgery.

I just had a DaVinci hysterectomy last week and spoke with the anesthesiologist about my tendency for nausea after surgery. He gave me Zofran before and after the surgery via IV and a patch to wear behind my ear. I experienced one bout of nausea two days after the surgery which lasted about two minutes. The dr called in compazine for me but luckily I did not have to take it.

I'm like you - I've NEVER had surgery under a general without getting so sick...that is, until this August when I put on my pre-admission forms that I have this problem. The anesthestist came to talk to introduce herself and talk to me a bit before they took me in and she gave me something that made me wake up feeling pretty darned good! I never even got a twinge of nausea...I was so excited!

I do plan on talking to my doc Thursday during my pre-op visit to see if we can use her or find out what it was she gave me to keep me from getting ill.

I forgot about the scop. patch. I did use that. You have to start early with it. Call the doctor and make sure if you use it that the aneth. doctor knows you have it on.

You can also ask the anesthesiologist during your pre-op if he/she will use a patch for you.

I agree with what everyone else has said - talk to your anesthesiologist. He or she can giv eyou something to help with the nausea.

I wanted to let you know how sorry I am that you are facing this surgery. It seems as though you have a lot on your mind. Losing your sister and the facing the ramifications of the hysterectomy - that is a lot to deal with in such a short time frame. Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.

I get very sick also. I told them at my last surgery and they put something in my IV but also put the motion sickness patch behind my ear.

I never felt sick one minute.
I was so happy it worked.

I have had extreme nausea with all three of my surgeries. The nausea for me is worse than the pain.With my hyst, they did give a combination of anti-nausea drugs,and although they did help a little,not enough. Zofran helped me the most.

I wanted to say thanks for this question as usual i find a answer before i even post a question I also had nausea after my TAH and now I'm getting ready to go thru a new surgery to repair my fistula ( GRRRRR ) that my doc denied was there until I pushed to have her look again .... anyway after a visit to a urologist I now have to try to find a specialist to repair the damage. was really scared I'd have nausea again now I have some ideas of what to do and who to ask to fix it. they can put something in your iv and phenegran is great, if it's too strong benedryl works too.
