What to Take to Hospital?
Surgery is Friday! Do I really need to bring stuff with me to the hospital like a nightgown, toothbrush & toothpaste, slippers, etc? I haven't been in the hospital for a couple of years but I remember they always provided you with necessities like this.
Blessings,
Shirlee

Re: What to Take to Hospital?
I brought a small bag with a toothbrush and toothpaste, a picture of my son, my I-pod, a book and my cell phone. I think that was it. They did give me a little kit with toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, baby powder, lotion, body wash, shampoo, mouthwash, etc. Towel and washcloth. But not until the next morning. I was not allowed out of bed the first day so I was glad I had my own toothbrush! I just brushed my teeth without toothpaste, in bed, better than nothing!

Re: What to Take to Hospital?
Hi!
I did take my own toothpase and toothbrush, but they would have provided that. They had any and all personal hygeine products I could have needed, including body wash (right on the wall of the shower!) and lotion.
In retrospect, I could have packed in a gallon ziplock bag. All I used was the toothbrush and toothpaste, a small notebook and pen (to jot down questions for the doctor since is pretty normal post-op), a hair binder and comb, and a battery-operated alarm clock placed on my tray table so that I didn't have to hunt for my glasses to see the time. (I'm very near-sighted.)
My hospital wouldn't let me wear my own slippers because of liability concerns, but their nice blue slippers were actually very cozy. And by wearing two hospital gowns (one opening in the front and one in the back) I had an instant bathrobe.
to you.

Re: What to Take to Hospital?
I agree with the others here. I packed way more than was needed. One thing that was nice was those little 'wisp' toothbrushes for brushing your teeth in bed. I was up the afternoon of my surgery, but did not shower until the next day and all toiletries provided so did not need mine. I did bring my own pjs though, that was nice.

Re: What to Take to Hospital?
I was told to bring a robe and slippers, and I also brought lip balm, my iPod, toothbrush and toothpaste. I was going to bring a book but somebody on the board suggested just magazines so bf picked up a few for me. As it turns out I never touched the iPod and magazines were perfect because you have the attention span of a gnat after surgery...lol.
I also brought a special stuffie that bf had given me on a previous surgery and he surprised me with a little bear holding a pillow that had 'Princess' embroidered on it. I had put the word out not to send me flowers (the cat eats them) so my stuffies were there to cheer me. :-)

Re: What to Take to Hospital?
My hospital said not to bring a nightgown/jammies as you had to wear their lovely designer gown. And their sexy lingerie - the mesh panties. Very very comfy!! It was extremely hot and dry in my room and I did not need a robe. I actually forgot to bring it anyway. I did bring one when I had my c-section and wore it though. I only walked from my bed to the bathroom, just a few feet.

Re: What to Take to Hospital?
I overpacked a little, but here is a list of what I used:
Their gowns
My socks & panties
My pads - they only had the ones that require a belt
notebook - small one to list questions & visitors
colored pens, in case someone wanted to leave a note if I was asleep
book of word puzzles
Wisp toothbrushes
peppermints - dry mouth was a big deal
hugger pillow - they provided one, but it was heavy & mine felt good between my knees & was easier to carry down the hall
Some places let you use your home meds, but my Dr ordered no home meds of any kind.
I wore loose clothes (men's track pants & t-shirt) to the hospital so I could wear them home.

Re: What to Take to Hospital?
OH yes, another thing I brought was a couple bags of candy for the nurses. At first they were on my rolling tray and then when I got mobile I moved them out to the nurses station...they were thrilled and it was a way for me to show my vast appreciation for all they do.

Re: What to Take to Hospital?
Thank you all! This was very helpful! I especially like the idea of taking some candy for the nurses.
31 more hours till my surgery ... lol!

Re: What to Take to Hospital?
The hospital I was in did not provide any toothpaste or toothbrush or anything like that. They did provide non-slip socks! I didn't need a night gown or anything. I stayed just one night and kept my hospital gown on. I packed my own deodorant and other toiletries. Remember to pack yourself some mints and lip balm. Lip balm is a biggy - you'll be so dry after your surgery and they let you really drink anything for a while. I packed my own pads and found that useful too.
Good luck to you!!! Have a positive attitude and you'll do just fine!!!
