Just been diagnosed with pre cancer of the uterus

Hi I'm 30 years old and have just been diagnosed with pre cancer of the uterus I also have PCOS. My surgeon has already removed 5 polyps from my uterus and has now placed a mirena in my uterus. I have never had children my husband and I want children but now we are now facing this. I need some advise on what to do so it doesn't turn into cancer? I'm very scared should I seek more or alternative treatments?

Re: Just been diagnosed with pre cancer of the uterus

I'm sorry you are facing this. As I understand it, if you want children, the treatment usually is progesterone therapy for a few months, re biopsy, then if clear, get pregnant right away. If still precancer or if it progresses to cancer, then they generally go to hysterectomy, but sometimes the progesterone works and ladies do get pregnant after. So I'd suggest a 2nd opinion, with a GYN oncologist if possible. That should be step one, and be clear about your desire for children. You might do some searches here, too, try searching "Megace". Some ladies have had success. But time is important so do make an appt. I hope you can find a Dr who can work with you on this. Let us know how your appt goes, we are here for you.

elena

I am sorry to hear your news.

Additionally some ladies have gone the surrogacy route. You can search for 'surrogate' or 'surrogacy' for threads on that topic. I believe some ladies have found some centers that do special rates for those with cancer trying to preserve some fertility options.

Re: Just been diagnosed with pre cancer of the uterus

I "had" complex hyperplasia with atypia and they could not rule out cancer. The mirena and a diabetic-type diet reversed mine. My gyn-onc has also treated women with cancer this way. The cancer reverses for many women with grade 1 uterine cancer and they can have a normal pregnancy. I plan on keeping my mirena in (I'm not ttc) to hopefully ward off progression. My dr. thinks the mirena is better than oral progesterones because it is a high dose, localized to the organ where it is needed, there are far fewer and less severe side effects, and the precancer can progress when the oral meds are stopped (it still can w mirena, but my dr has a higher success rate w mirena). If the mirena doesn't work (my dr gave me a year's time, but it worked for be by my first repeat biopsy at the 3 month mark) then there are other oral meds you can try. Good luck
