PRAYER REQUEST FOR TUESDAY 10-Aug (AM) Surgery

I have three large fibroids. For years they have not given me any major problems. For some reason, the last few months, they have taken off and just grown out of control. The doctor says the size of a water melon....right! Maybe thee GrapeFruits...uterus is 20x larger than it should be. During the sonogram, the techs wer just amazed and thought for sure I had heavy bleeding during my cycle and they even thought I had no start and stop date for my period....well I did have a start and stop day, one heavy day...and the last 6-months that one day was getting heavier and heavier.....NTL.

Two yeas ago I had a doctor tell me that, "I would grow tired of the fibroids before they grew tired of me." Any way I have since learned that she was right....the pain isn't so bad I would say discomfort more than pain. However, the size of my tummy and the fibroids...for the last few months I have been constantly buying cloths, because between bloating pre-post cycle water retention...I cant fit anything. I know that there is pressure on other organs...feet swelling from circulation during ovulation....etc etc...there has got to be a better life.

I have never had surgery before. At first I was just as scared as could be. Through a lot of prayer and support from friends and family, and spending hours on your this site...I'm actually ready!

I have one question for my Dr. on Monday...he said that he was just removing the uterus....however, I was told to ask about the cervix, because sometime it is not clear...I was told that your vagina could fall if the remove the cervix. Any one else have any information on this topic?

Last of all, I am 41, and 14 years ago a friend of mine had her fibroids removed. I had my fibroids back then, but they were the size of a small lemon, no heavy periods etc etc. To make a long story short, my friend is going in again this month to have her firbroids removed AGAIN. All the years that I have carried my fibroids, I always knew that once they went in to remove them, I would have the the uterus removed as well...So I waited until I knew that I did not want any children. I figured if my fibroids could wait until then, I would have them removed at that time. This being my first surgery, I could not imagine having to go through this twice.

I have heard that with fibroids, sometime you do not even realize you are feeling as bad as you really are feeling. After having fibroids for an extended period of time...you kinda just feel bad all the time.

I'm ready to start feeling better now. I have found a lot of support and useful information on this site. I've printed out several pages of info for references.

My prayers and thought will be with all the other sisters that are going to the castle this coming week....

PRAYER REQUEST FOR TUESDAY 10-Aug (AM) Surgery

Hi QueenDrama,

to Hyster Sisters!!

I'm glad that you found us and that the information you've read has already been helpful. Have you read the Pre-Op Hints and the Post-Op Hints yet? They are full of great advice that will help you to prepare for your surgery and recovery.

You asked about the cervix - it's actually part of the uterus, and not actually a separate organ. Mine was removed, and I have not had any problems, but this is something that you might want to ask your doctor about, since I think it's only fairly recently that some doctors have begun to do supra-cervical hysts.

You'll be in my thoughts and prayers for a successful and uneventful surgery and recovery.

PRAYER REQUEST FOR TUESDAY 10-Aug (AM) Surgery

Hi, Queen Drama,

I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers for your surgery. I hope all goes well with you and soon you will be feeling great - no more fibroids to deal with. I had my surgery on 7/27, keeping my cervix. The dr said this was fine since I have had all normal paps and no problems there. It is my understanding that this helps support the vagina and the bladder and bowels. (This is only my opinion, I am not a healthcare professional.) I would ask the dr about this if I were you, I asked mine and she said that was fine to keep my cervix.

God's blessings to you in your upcoming surgery and recovery.

My prayers will be with you,

Sallie

PRAYER REQUEST FOR TUESDAY 10-Aug (AM) Surgery

I have been wondering if any one else had the symptoms that I did (swelling of leg, 1 day periods) and the one's I didn't (no real pain ). Your posting helped me to clarify the few doubts I had on having surgery (due to not have as severe symptoms as others).

I will remember both you and your friend in my prayers. Good luck and God Bless.

Theresa
