Vaginal Hyst???

Hi.
At my last dr. visit he said he would maybe do a vaginal hyst but has to check with a laproscope to see if I had adhesions from my myomectomy.
My roomy when I had the myo was supposed to have a laproscopic hyst but the instrument broke and she wound up with an abdominal hyst.
I'm a bit scared of the laproscope now but love the idea of a quicker recovery. Is it really that much easier to have a vaginal hysterectomy?

Vaginal Hyst???

Hi Helen,
I can only relate my experiences. I had a laparoscopy done when I had my tubiligation. Pain was not an issue. When I went in to have my vaginal hyst, the doc could not get my ovaries out vaginally (they were too high up) and had to do that part with laparoscopy. The lap is no big deal. I refer to my incisions as "puncture wounds", because they really are that small. I have had an excellent experience in my recovery. My biggest issue is insomnia and exhaustion. I have never once experienced vaginal pain from the surgery, and I have not bled at all. I don't know if that helps any......if you are curious about anything else that I didn't mention, feel free to ask!

Vaginal Hyst???

I had a LAVH and I have a small incision under my belly button and a small "puncture" at the bikiniline. They've both healed up nicely. The one at the bikini line one you can't hardly tell it's there.
I had the discharge, but it was all done by week 3. The gas pain from surgery was worse than anything. My nether reigon hasn't hurt at all. I'm 7 weeks now and I feel just about normal.

Vaginal Hyst???

I had an LAVH and the belly button incision was the most painful. Gas is also a problem since they use so much to see around in there.

As far as recovery goes, internally it's probably the same, but vaginal hyst patients seem to have a more difficult time remembering that they had major surgery. I guess the huge incision serves as a reminder that you were cut open.

I wanted a vag, simply because it doesn't require a huge cut, but your doctor will know which method is right for you. Just remember whatever method he uses that you follow his advise completely.

Vaginal Hyst???

Hi and thanks for sharing.
Is an LAVH the same thing as the doctor peeking in to see about adhesions and then going through with a vaginal hyst?

Vaginal Hyst???

PS- I've already been cut from hip to hip from my myo..not at all concerned about scars outside...have major insiscion scar, not a biggie.
I'm a bit concerned about fiture adhesions from the laproscope.
Thanks for your input, it's so helpful and I'm so glad to have found this board.

Vaginal Hyst???

An LAVH is a vaginal hyst, but the doc uses a laparoscope to "look around" inside. Basically, they use the belly button incision to insert the scope, and the two bikini line incisions (tiny) to insert the instruments and disconnect everything. Then things are removed thru the vagina (same as a TVH). My doc did an LAVH since I've had previous abdominal surgery and he wanted to check for scar tissue/adhesions from previous surgeries.

I think adhesions are a concern, no matter what type of surgery you have since it's caused by bleeding. The best way to prevent adhesions is to follow the "don't do anything" advise given by your doc and give your body a chance to heal.

Let me know if you have any more questions.
