NEW - Heavy Prolonged Bleeding -- Suggestions?

I have tried to post a couple of times ... I hope I am not "reposting" but can't find my thread. So, I'm going to try again. Sorry if this is duplicative.

I am 43 years old and for the past few months I have had a major chance in my cycle. Until November, I was always very regular -- although I have always had periods lasting 7 days and what I would consider heavy at times.

However, I did not have a period in December and in January (January 8th) I started my period and it was very, very heavy and lasted two weeks.

Then, in February -- (February 14th), I started again, and it was heavy again and lasted two weeks ... then I spotted until I started again in March (today is my 15th day of heavy bleeding).

Has anyone every had something similar happen? I am concerned ... and scared!

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

LTT

NEW - Heavy Prolonged Bleeding -- Suggestions?

Hi there! I had a similar pattern and my doctor said I was in peri-menopause. I also had fibroids which can also cause heavy bleeding, but usually not the intermittant and then the prolonged periods. Don't be scared!

But, it would be a good idea to see your GYN. My doctor put me on low-dose birth control pills and for a couple of years, that controlled the bleeding and made my periods regular again. There are things that can be done.

Hi Ltt,

I agree with JannaBailey. I had fibroids also and had similar symptoms to what you described.

Being diagnosed with fibroids really freaked me out and then I read online that approx. 40% of women get fibroids. In my case, my mom and two sisters have also had fibroids.

That all being said...like JannaBailey replied too, it is a good idea to get a Dr's opinion.

I suddenly started having heavy bleeding due to fibroids. I knew I had the fibroids before I had any symptoms though - so I knew what was causing it. You really need to see your doctor. You could be anemic and may need to take some high dose iron supplements. I quickly became anemic, short of breath, etc.
